im from calif, never been to florida, but im curious to know, during the summer time do you guys get a lot of mosquitos? go through the trouble of mosquito bites?
the reason why im asking is because im living away now in italy and during the summer we get them by tons, its horrible and in general people say they get them since its a peninsula, water on both sides, so is it the same there in florida or not at all?

Yes there are alot of mosquito's in Florida. "Orange County" where Disney World, Sea World and Universal Studios is was originally named "Mosquito County" by the Spanish in the 1800's.

There's lots of mosquitos in Florida in the summer time for sure, especially late in the afternoon in a back yard or near wooded areas. BTW, calif stands for: Come and live in Florida.

I grew up in Miami, had kids on the west coast, and visit the state almost every year. . . (I was born in CA - lived there later, too)
Mosquito population is about the same, anywhere that there is abundant 'open' water sources . . . unless cities 'spray' for them, or do other treatments, the populations of these critters can be quite annoying. . .
When I was a kid, the city notified us before spray trucks/planes would be releasing insecticide - we had to stay indoors for about an hour, each time, and we still had swarms of the bugs in the early evenings/mornings.
Nothing has changed - these pests are still abundant -

Yes, it's horrible. Everyone has these huge screened-in structures attached to the backs of their houses just so they can be outdoors without being attacked. And, although it gets somewhat chilly in the winter, south of Orlando it's never really cool enough for the mosquitoes to die. BUT I still love Florida!

I live in Sanford,fl. And we have whats called blind mosquito's here. They are extremely prolific, but they do not bite. I'm from the great state of TEXAS, and we have mosquito's there of course, but them bastards will bite your damn head off. these are taking some time to get used to, but don't seem to be a bother... come on down, I could use the company...lol

Yes. Part of our trouble too is the standing water left over from rain. Many neighborhoods (especially in South Florida) do not drain well and water can be left standing for several days. Of course, this is the rainy season.

We have plenty of mosquitos and other kinds of biting bugs. We have biting bugs that you can't even see, even when they bite you! The biggest bite problem I have is ant bites, we have gazillions of fire ants here, and they are everywhere. I have seen more bugs in Florida than any other place I've been in the States.
