Assume you do make it...on $60 or even $80...what are you going to do once you get to NYC? Aren't you going need some money for the trip?

If you are cutting your expenses so close...better to visit chicago!

Depends on your miles/gallon. That's pushing it. haha
That's not even 2 fills probably. If you could get a $10 donation from someone, and promise to pay them back, you might want to do that.
Whatever you do, don't stop for anything but gas.

I would say you have a 5% chance of making it. Remeber that you'll have city traffic in NYC! That means more gas used per mile and potentially running out on a dangerous freeway.

Indiana is a big state, so it will be hard to give you exact information. I'm going to assume you're driving from Indianapolis to Manhattan.

I'm going to price gas at $3.10, but the actual price you pay will make your calculations fluctuate.

$60 divided by $3.10 = 19.35 gallons you can buy.
19.35 x 31 mgp = 599.85 miles you can go
Distance from Indy to NYC = 708 miles.

No, you can't make it. You're going to need more money, cheaper gas or a more fuel-efficient car.

NOTE: If you want to calculate exactly how much gas you'd need, tell me what town in Indiana you're coming from, where you're going to in NY, and how much gas costs in your area.

i drove from carbondale illinois to queens in december driving a cavalier and gased up somewhere near columbus oh and again in harrisburg pa and arrived with plenty of gas in the tank. it was a rental and i dont remember how big the tank was but i know i spent over $30/each on the two fillups so i would say you would be on empty into nyc on your second tank. just a guess.

you can burn up that much sitting in traffic during rush hour. You're definatly going to have allow a bigger budget for gas. Fill up in NJ before getting into NY, gas cheaper there!

I doubt it. Especially since gas is well over $3 a gallon in NY.

you have to know how many miles per gallon you get, and the total miles to your destination. figure $3.00/gallon. Even if you can do it for that, you should still have some kind of back-up in case you have mechanical problems. If you have to, see if you can borrow someone's credit card for an emergency

go to mapquest.com and calculate your route and total miles. then divide the numbers of miles by how many miles per gallon that your car gets. Assume gas at $3.25 per gallon in the NYC area

Is $60. all you have? How are you set otherwise? I assume you
have enough for a return trip. Good Luck ,you'll need it in NYC
if you're as naive as you sound.
