It's not only because of the price of fuel, is it? I was a little surprised at how expensive it was just to go from Tokyo to Hiroshima by shinkansen considering it's not really *that* far geographically. I would love to visit in Hokkaido also, but I don't know if we will be able to afford it!

What's your opinion on why it's so expensive?

For the past few days now trains traveling through downtown (where I live) have been waking me up at 3 & 4 in the morning. I don't even live that close to the train tracks, but they honk those things so loud that you can hear them for miles. What possible purpose could there be to these train conductors doing that at these ungodly hours? It makes me so mad!! I swear some of those guys must do it just to piss people off. I could see them giving the horn a few good toots once in a while, but it seems like they lay on them for about 10 minutes straight, at the loudest volume setting, with maybe a 4 second interval. It's insane!!!

My first name is Kirstin. (Pronounced the same way as the actress Kirsten Dunst).

I know that using the Katakana alphabet there is no perfect adaptation of how to spell this. However, the closest ways I've seen so far are:

カーステイン
or
キルステン

Do you know which of these spellings would be considered a closer adaptation of my name or do you think that there might be an even better way to spell it? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!!

It is so 1990s still here in provincial Liverpool. The people can be so out of step with the latest fashions in London, Paris and New York. For instance, it seems every adult male in Liverpool is a carbon copy of the other with this obsession for crew-cuts and shaving their heads bald. They all look like they're still stuck in 1992! I ask my guy friends here, why don't you grow your hair long like most men are doing elsewhere in the civilised world, and they look at me as though I have three heads. There seems to be no respect for individuality; everyone wants to be a conforming clone of the other.

Don't you feel this is a lynching campaign against Turks? And the distinguishing character of any lynching is the crowd's inability to listen to facts and their acting with vulgar sentiment?

How can the "civilized" West accept a lynching campaign? After 600 years, do they still a scape goat to unite them? Do they need a scape goat to help them forget their own crimes against humanity?

What IS the psychological and sociological reason behind this comedy?
