of course - where have you been all of your life? if you change country you need a passport!

Probably it depends on the Country you're from, but as a EU citizen you shouldn't need a passport. As someone already mentioned, there are no longer customs between mainland EU countries. I often travel across the European Union, and never have to show my ID. I just have to show my ID (no passport, just a driver's license) when I travel by plane.
P.S. I didn't need a passport to enter the UK either.

If you are British, yes. you do need a passport. If you come from a member country that has the "National Identity Card" System ..IE. Spain than No, you can use your Identity card ,instead of a passport to travel within the European Union.But outside the EU even those with ID cards require a Passport.

If your country issues (EU) ID-cards you don't need a passport; you can travel troughout EU countries with only taking your ID. If your country doesn't have IDs (like the UK) you'll need a passport to proof your identity - otherwise you risk being arrested as an illegal immigrant; if UK border controls let you leave the Island at all. I think most european countries require their citizens having an ID; as far as I know only the UK refuses to introduce it.

The obvious answer is yes, you do! To board any ferry or plane you will need a passport when travelling in the EU.
HOWEVER, I have recently moved to Germany from England and drove over using the ferry (well, my car to do the driving and the ferry to do the sea bit....you know what I mean!!). I did need my passport to get on the ferry in Dover but I didn't need it to cross the border from France to Belgium and then Belgium to Germany. You just drive straight over the borders! I would never rely on this and travel between European countries without a passport but you can indeed do it without showing one!

No, if you're an EU citizen you don't need a passport or any other ID to travel around European Union. There are no customs any longer between EU countries. In fact, you can even travel to some non EU country (like Switzerland) with just an ID.

you need your passport to enter/leave UK, or to enter/leave EU from non EU. Throughout the rest of europe the borders are open with no controls. However most euro countries require citizens to carry ID cards, and will only accept a passport from non citizens

Supposedly all you have to have is an ID. That's it. Passports are for people outsid the EU.

Yes unless we introduce identity cards you have no other way of proving who you are and be allowed into another country .
The only difference in the EU is that you go through a separate channel in customs , but can still be stopped !!

You always need to have your passport with you when you travel in a foreign country. It proves your right to be there.
