Not until January 1, 2008, you do need ID & sometimes a Birth certificate.

You need a passport to travel between the U.S and Canada. However, the requirement was altered because of the huge demand for new passports in the U.S. I don't know how close they are to catching up on issuing them.

As of September 1st you will. My dad was just in Canada and the people him and his buddies were staying with said make sure to get passports because on Sept. 1st you have to have one.
