Culture wise Aborigines and Maoris are fairly different, Aboriginals (australians) are thought to be related to the papua new giuneans and have inhabited Australia for 10's of thousands of years, Where as the Maoris are generally thought to be from Polynesia so more resembles Hawaiians in looks and Customs and have not ihabited New Zealand for that amount of time. Both Countries were discovered in the late 1700's by Captain James Cook and both were then settled by the Birtish although Australia was used as a penal colony, we don't mind though we know who got the best deal. New Zealand and Australia are brothers we fights like cats and dogs within ourselves yet against anyone else we stand side by side, back to back. Holiday wise are fairly similar we both are largely Christians so Christmas is a national holiday and because it is summer in both countries at that time food can be anything from Roast meat to bbq's to seafood. We both celebrate Mother's Day, Father's Day, Labor Day and the Queen's birthday although at different times of the year. We each have our own holidays as well though such as Australia day and Waitangi Day (NZ) School holidays are also at similar times of the year maybe a week or two out, And in both countries schools are split into 4 terms with the Christmas/Summer holidays being the longest.
Customs wise we all like going to the pub, netball, Cricket, Rugby, mateship, BBQ's and pavlova who invented what? and who's the best at what? are questions that will never be agreed on. Hope that helps.

In terms of "general"culture we are probalby similar...having the british background....although the Nz is not based on convicts!! haha...sorry had to mention that.

We don;t have much overlap on holidays I think...school holidays for a start are different in that we have a 4 term year here, while I tihnk ( but don;t quote me) its 3 terms in Oz....summer holidays would be similar tho.
ANZAC day is an overlap, but the other holidays are different I think like Labour Day, Queens Birthday ( do Oz even celebrate that??) and we have provincial holidatys eg Auckland anniversary, Wellington Anniversay, which do not relate to Oz.....and the national holiday ( Waitangi Day and Australia Day are different for different reasons).

Customs...some are the same, but as Oz has aboriginal and NZ has Maori there are diffs there....the maori culture has a much higher and more obvious standing ( in that maori is an official language for a start) in signs, but only about 5% of the population speak it fluently.

relaxed lifestyle is considered an antipodean trait, similar in both countries, and a more outdoory, sporty feel ingeneral ( compared to the UK where I lived for a while). ......I feel too that in general we are both friendly, but I have heard time and again from many people that its proably a bit mroe friendly in NZ ( maybe being heaps smaller in population)...but of course there are people who ruin it for people!!! Also ozzies are considered a bit more arrogant.....good for them in sport I admit, but its the opinion of many kiwis.
Accent is similar in parts....although for the most part a short sentence will tell you the origins!!! outsiders still tend not to be able to tell us apart...sigh.

New Zealanders and Australians see huge differences between our countries but most outsiders will see few. The rivalry between us on all sporting fields is legendary. Andrew Denton had a song about the Olympic Games a few years ago which said it didn't matter how many medals we won "as long as we beat New Zealand". The Bledisloe Cup is perhaps the most legendary of the World's Rugby trophies only eclipsed by the World Cup.

While we might squabble between ourselves, we unite against outsiders - like close family always does. The major difference between us is that while both countries have lots of sheep, Australians are not as close to them as New Zealanders are...
