Maroochydore is on the Sunshine Coast north of Brisbane, and the travel time between these two places is 1 hour by car. It will take at the least 1 and a half hours to get to Surfers from Maroochydore - the Gold Coast is below Brisbane.

oh boy you'll be lost before you get anywhere , Brisbane is right smack dab in the middle of the Gold coast and Maroochydore , Surfers Paradise is on the Gold Coast , Maroochydore is on the Sunshine coast heading north up the Bruce highway.
If your starting at Surfers Paradise come up the pacific highway take the Gateway bridge exit then follow the Bruce highway all the way to the Maroochydore turn off , depending on traffic maybe 2 hours min 2 and 1/2 to 3 max.

If your coming down the Bruce highway you'll hit Maroochydore , Brisbane , Gold coast , Surfers Paradise.same run time maybe more depending on where your coming from.Theres lot of signs to guide you if you stay on the Bruce highway to the gateway bridge then follow that till you hit the sign saying ipswich / gold coast , take the gold coast turn and follow down through Logan , Springwood all the way down .Keep your eyes open for signage.

Watch out for police radars and police vehicle's sitting waiting to take your picture if you break the speed limit especially around Narangba.

I would highly recommend you look at this map

http://www.queensland-australia.com/southeast-queensland-highways.php

It shows the highways of Brisbane and town names. It also has distances. (Btw, Southport is next to Surfers Paradise which isn't listed on the map)

Direct answers to your questions...
- Brisbane is closer to Maroochydore (which is in the Sunshine Coast to the north of Brisbane). Surfers Paradise is the northern end of the Gold Coast (which is South of Brisbane)
- Maroochydore is almost 200kms from Surfers Paradise
