It is in the north-east corner of Isan. It's quite far away from.
It's famous for its big freshwater lake.

Personally, I prefer Nakhon Phanom province.

It's in the northeast region, or as the Thais call it, Esan. The city name is usually spelled in English as, "Sakhon Nakhon". But you spelled it as it's pronounced.

I've been there and it's an interesting place. Beside the large Laos and Thai population, there are a lot of Vietnamese who have settled there. It's well known amongst the Thais because of the large variety of things that people from that community eat. The Thais frequently joke about the 'dog eating' that takes place there.

I walked through the markets there and I saw some crazy things for sale. Rat bodies, and huge collections of insects were just the beginning.

Despite the culinary quirks, if you have a chance to go there I recommend it. It's an interesting collection of cultures.

I think you meant Sakhon Nakhon, a province and city in Northeastern Thailand near the Laos-Thai border. Right?

This the wikipedia link for that province which will lead you to specifics of the area.

Good luck
