My first name is Kirstin. (Pronounced the same way as the actress Kirsten Dunst).

I know that using the Katakana alphabet there is no perfect adaptation of how to spell this. However, the closest ways I've seen so far are:

カーステイン
or
キルステン

Do you know which of these spellings would be considered a closer adaptation of my name or do you think that there might be an even better way to spell it? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!!

I think that キルスティン would be the best. That's how Kirsten Dunst's name is translated into Japanese.

I'm studying japanese for the fourth yr now so you can trust my answer. The 2nd one is all right... Pronounced as "ki-ru-su-ten".

It's キルステン. That's how the actress is known in Japan (キルステン・ダンスト).

Not to be a smarty face but...
It would be neither.

ki-ru-su-ten = きるすてん

=]]]

That is Hiragana...

I agree, the second is better. The first makes you Kastrin.

キルスティン

http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%82%AD%E3%83%AB%E3%82%B9%E3%83%86%E3%82%A3%E3%83%B3%E3%83%BB%E3%83%80%E3%83%B3%E3%82%B9%E3%83%88

But some Japanese people call her name キルステン. However, if you google キルステン、キルスティン shows up as a correct name:http://www.google.co.jp/search?hl=ja&q=%E3%82%AD%E3%83%AB%E3%82%B9%E3%83%86%E3%83%B3%E3%80%80%E3%83%80%E3%83%B3%E3%82%B9%E3%83%88&lr=lang_ja

Anyway, I think either キルスティン or キルステン is ok. But if you want Japanese people to somewhat enunciate your name precisely, キルスティン would be the better choice.
