I'm going to be in Tokyo December 28th - 30th. I've read this is their New Year Holiday period and the city empties because people go to their hometowns to visit their families. Does that mean most things (sites and shopping) will be closed?
What things are best to visit while in Tokyo?

I want to see the desert and as many strange places as I can... The original idea was to go coast to coast, from miami to LA or vegas...
I dont really want to see tourism, I want ot see hidden and amazing places.
Oh... and a theme park or two!

Leaving Australia for the 1st time and taking a teaching job in Pattaya. Paniking and wondering if I've made the right decision! Have read a lot about Pattayas' reputation- and have recently read it's not a good place for single Western women- that's me! my monthly budget is around 6000 Rs to 7000 Rs

I've lived in the LA area for about 9 years, with a few much-needed breaks in between. It would be a great city if the people here were a little better quality (and they had better public tranportation). I have found a few decent, real people here in 9 years, and thousands of flakes, wannabes, and jerks. I haven't been able to have a single relationship with anyone here, and only made a few real friends, and I am down to earth, goodlooking and openminded. Luckily, I haven't let people like that change me. Why are LA people so notoriously self-absorbed, shallow and flaky?
