I've set myself the biggest physical challenge of my life! I'm going to Swim the Channel! OK, I'm not putting on the goose grease and going to Dover but I am attempting to swim the 22 miles in my swimming pool in Crediton, Devon!

It's for a charity called ASPIRE who work for people with Spinal Injuries so it's for a good cause. I also need to do something to help me get fit. When I was last weighed at the Doctors I was 16 stone! I really need to lose some of that weight!

The pool at Crediton is small so 22 miles means I only have to 1408 lengths!!! As I am far from fit I plan to do this sensibly over approx. 10 weeks (the challenge lasts for 12 weeks between Sept 11th and Dec 3rd).

So let me know if you are doing the Swim or if you have any helpful tips, or words of encouragement! If you are interested I'll keep you posted on my progress through Y!A

im 14 and im not strong at all. i absolutely hate lots of competition but someone suggested i try it, and they said my school's swim coach is nice and its really not that competitve. i dont want to sound whiny, but i dont have a lot of stamina (i guess i could fix that though) im more of a books person, not a sports person. is swimming a good sport for me then?

hey! i'm on my 4th day of camp and i'm doing quite well except for a few problem areas with sculling/vertical positions. when i'm in a vertical position, how are my hands/arms supposed to scull? do my palms face the bottom of the pool or the sky? lastly, i seem to be sinking a lot in the water, how can i make sure my legs are fully out of the water, and make them stay there?

It was self defense, because the shark was attacking me since I had a small cut on my arm. My question is- Will I get in trouble? Aren't they an endangered species? Should I turn myself in?

I can't even float in water. If I go in water deeper than me I would drown. I'm always the only one who can't swim at pool parties. I can do everything else but swim. It's fun though with a life jacket, I can float. People tell me to just move my legs and arms around. They say it so simple, but I find it impossible. When I go into deep water I start drowning so everyone starts saving me. Explain to me how to be in water without sinking please!

I've been a competitive breast-stroker for a number of years. Recently, a good friend told me that in order to be a champion breast stroker, I really should learn to swim. Is there anything to this bizarre suggestion? Is my friend simply having me on? [I strongly suspect the latter.]

After changing into her competition swimsuit at the swimming pool toilet, can my friend cover-up her swimsuit with a pair of tennis or netball skirt?

Has any female competitive swimmer that you know tried to wear a ‘TYR’ Pull-on skirt or a ‘TYR’ solid wrap skirt during her swim meets?
