Sharks and Minnows (person in the pool is the shark and the people on the side are minnows. Shark yells "Minnows, swim" and everyone jumps or dives into the water and tries to swim to the other side. Shark swims after them and anyone he tags before they get out of the pool (or touch the side if you make that the safe base) becomes a shark too. Last person standing wins and becomes the new shark.)
Monkey in the middle (throw a ball or ring or frisbee or something back and forth between two people, with a third person in the middle... I the person in the middle (the monkey) intercepts your throw and catches the object, you switch places. With each throw of the object, the individuals throwing it take a step backwards to increase the distance between them.

Sharks and Minnows is fun but is best when played in a big pool. it can get pretty hardcore though. rec. for older kids with better swimming skills.
My fav when i was little was Treasure Hunt. Get some fake gold , silver, and bronze coins. tell the kids to close their eyes, and you throw the coins out into the pool. Then, when you say go, they kids dive in and search for and retrieve the coins. When all the coins have been found, add up who got the most pts, with bronze being th e least amt of points up to gold being the most pts, and whoever got the most wins. Another tip-- when you throw out the coins get creative and hide a few. Put one on the ladder step, or under the waterfall, or next to the gutter. Its a FUN, safe game for kids in the pool

Depends on how big the pool is. My friends & I used to play a version of water polo (set up chairs outside the pool and make them a goal). The ball would have to bounce off the water first, and go into the goal.
How far you can swim underwater without coming up for air. How far you can glide (not swim) by pushing off a wall in the pool and seeing how far you can go. Dumb games, but we kept ourselves entertained.
If it's a deep pool, we used to see who could make the biggest splash.

If you're willing to invest a couple of bucks, a pool volley ball net is fun. We also had a ring toss/basketball game that we enjoyed.
Also, the kids seem to enjoy diving for pennies.

We used to place a float in the middle of the pool (has to be an inground) then run and jump and try to land on (straddle) the float. It's not very easy and the float has to be in the center to avoid injury from hitting the sides. umm... play at your own risk.

in case you have a deck of enjoying cards you may play plenty. teach one yet another card tricks. attempt to make some up. place "conflict" "slap jack" or maybe "bypass fish". in case you have paper and pen play hangman, tick tack toe, or write questions everybody has to answer. Be ingenious!
