When I was little, I was affraid of the water but tried arm floaties. They help you as far as knowing that you are going to stay above the water and when you are at ease with them, then you will learn to swim and soon get rid of them. Who cares what others think, no one is perfect and theerefore it gives them no room to talk. Ignore them and when they see that it does not bother you, then they will shut up.After I learned to swim without them, I went on to become a registered life guard with the boyscouts. You can do it , just take your time and relax and don't be affraid. If at first you do not succeed then try and try and try again.
Good luck

I tried them once just for fun (I was already swimming well). They seemed uncomfortable and got in the way. My daughter has a pair as she can't swim yet and she doesn't like them. Depending how old you are, they do make swim suits that have float devices on them and if you are too big for those (not sure how big they run in size), you can always look for a life jacket, my daughter prefers it over floaties.

I didn't learn to swim until I was 12, so I wore arm floaties up 'til then. They worked pretty well for keeping me afloat, but I felt silly wearing them. Plus, I got some funky tan lines.

no but one time i took all my cousins arm floaties and covered my entire arms and legs with them and then took all the tubes in my grandmas pool as well and became the giant floating bubble. Im not joking about that either it was fun....i was floating so high my hair didn't even touch the water and i have long hair

the arm floaties are kinda bad. I know for young children it is very difficult for them to roll over once on their bellies. I have done many rescues on childern who were wearing them and they couldnt roll over. I dont suggest them, as a certified lifeguard.

They are not good if you are trying to learn to swim. They keep the body upright where it needs to lie prone in the water. It will keep your head above water, but it won't help you learn to swim it restricts movement.
