I have cross country running tomorrow at my high school. I want to know how to reduce my times, but also not suffer so much while doing it?
Or any other tips for cross country running?

Sports like basketball, baseball, swimming, etc., talent does help, but you can still learn the sport just as well as the next person. Does the same apply to track & field?

I'm usually a distance runner in track, but I know I can run way faster, and I have terrible stamina so I'm thinking sprints.
I also do 100m hurdles.
Anyway, what could I do to get ready? Like stretches, warm-ups, etc.
I think we're trying out with the stopwatch in 3-4 days.
My first time ever on 100m sprints was 17.3 but my timer messed up.. next time was a practice and I got 16.1. I'm in 8th grade, and these times were last year. Fastest in my grade was 15.9. Thanks for any tips to get me ready!

What would be an reasonable goal for an average, female, 8th grade track runner for the 100m dash? (As in nothing totally outstanding, but good enough to be on the track team without embarassing themselves.)

Hello, I am a Junior at my High School and have been a sprinter since i joined Track my Freshman year. I am about 5'7" 150lbs. I run the 55m to the 400m. I tend to do better in 200m-400m, because of my long strides, but I have problems getting out of my blocks, or gettin a good stance. I was just wondering if i could get some tips on block starts or any kind of drills to improve how fast i start out? Please and Thankyou! Any thing will help!

I know that they average around $ 160.00 retail and $80 to $170 on ebay. Are they a good running shoe. Do you have a pair and what do you like or dis-like about them. I currently have a pair of Asics gel nimbus version 7 that are getting old quick, should i upgrade to the kinsei.

On Sunday there's a 1000m cross race and I've been running 13 km two times a week. Last time i finished second because I almost fainted on the finish line |-( but I'm pretty tough at long distances and sprints. So would it hurt to drink some kind of Red Bull before running to increase my energy for a while or would that destroy me after I stop running?

A common measure of how one should describe these types of workouts is by pace, (5k pace or 1 mile pace, etc...) However, I am more concerned with measuring these as a percent of heart rate max. I do alot of HIIT workouts varying from 400m repeats to 1 mile repeats, but from all the reading I've been doing, it seems that the latter help more with lactate threshold than and to a lesser degree vo2 max, whereas it's vice versa for the former.

Assume my heart rate max is 200 bpm, what should be the target heart rates on each of the aforementioned workouts? What is easy? I feel like I am conditioned enough that 130-140 bpm does nothing for me on a supposed 'easy' day.

My daughter is a freshman, she has never been in track before, but joined yesterday. The season starts next week and I have no idea what type of shoes she needs. She has soccer and softball shoes, would these work or are there special running shoes she should have? She signed up for the 100 and 200 meters.

Track starts in two weeks at our school and I might try out. In 7th grade what all types do you do (i.e. 100 Meter or W/e) and do you have to or do you even do hurdles?

I watched a video of myself running, and I realized that I have a bigger and slower stride than most people, but it is not too noticable.... I am pretty fast but do you think my stride is messing me up? Taking lots of strides makes me so frustrated, but if need be I will change it... should I?

Ok, well track starts in a just about a week.
I'm a freshman in high school.

I ran the mile last year, unimpressively at 7:20.
but, that was completely out of shape..

I just finished out my basketball season, although I'm still not in too much shape.

I'm still not quite sure about my running events. Most likely, I'll do around 400, 800, or possibly mile - but I do have decent speed, so even 200 could be added, but that's unlikely.
and I must say, I haven't quite done all the running I should.

I've worked out slightly, but stretching and doing some crunches, running stairs, jogging about half a mile every other couple days. I'm afraid I'm going to improperly train because I've been dealing with shin splints for a few weeks, but I'd like to succeed in track.

Any suggestions?

Also - are there eating suggestions?
I've been trying to lower intaking on sodas and stuff, but drinking flavored water.

thanks, guys.
hopefully you have some tips!

I high jump, run hurdles (110 and 300), and triple jump, and I want shoes that can work for all of those indoor and outdoor, but focus on outdoor. I don't need a specific model, although it'd be nice, but I want to know whether I want 6 spikes or 8, plastic bottoms or rubber ones, and a brand.

My dad bought me the Nike+ iPod running kit but I don't have the shoes to go with it. I do however have the Nike Air Max 360 but I'm having trouble finding a place to put the sensor that doesn't feel weird when i run. Has anyone found a comfortable way of attacting the sensor to a non-nike shock shoe?
I've attempted to cut an insert in the added arch supports but the sensor is too thick, i've also tried padding at the heel with a slot to put the sensor in but again too thick.
If i was to make an incision into the tongue of the shoe, and place the sensor in there, would the ipod be able to pick up the signal?
(Basically, does it have to be under the foot where it's receiving a direct impact or can it be anywhere on the shoe?)

Thank you in advance! :)
