Track starts in two weeks at our school and I might try out. In 7th grade what all types do you do (i.e. 100 Meter or W/e) and do you have to or do you even do hurdles?

Doing track is a great idea! It's a lot of fun and you meet really great people. If you feel more comfortable running for a longer period of time, try things like the 800 (twice around the track) mile or even 2 mile. If you feel better doing quick races, try the shorter races- 100, 200 and maybe the 400 (once around) By no means do you have to do hurdles. If you do sprints and want to try them I'm sure the coach would be open to you trying it. It is something that requires a certain 'form' that you practice in order to go over it quickly. That's something that your coach will teach you!

Don't put a lot of pressure on yourself- just have fun and enjoy yourself! Make sure you have some good running shoes that are comfortable. You don't want to wear shoes that are unsupportive. They could cause you injury. You might want to ask the coach what brands you could try or if there is a running store near you where you could have someone fit you to a pair that would match your needs.

Have a great time and good luck!

go for it!

at the middle school level, where everyone is pretty new to track, the coach will probably make you try a couple different events to see what you are good at. You dont have to do all the events, or even more than one or two.
I found that I was good at distance running, my stride just wasnt good for sprinting, so I concentrated on that. Try everything and see what suits you.

you can do hurdles, but i never did. i liked cross country best. in the next two weeks, you should try to drink as much water as possible, and do some stretching to get yourself ready.

i have track practice tomorrow for the 7th grade, and in my opinion i love to run short distance. Basically 400m and under, and relays.
