Carrying additional weight will theoretically burn more calories but the added weight puts undue strain on your knees and elbows. It will not build strength in your leg/arm muscles.

If you want to add weights to your exercise program, I suggest you set aside a separate workout time in addition to jogging to lift weights (free weights or machines commonly found at the gym).

Please what ever you do, do not strap weights to yourself while running. I assume you will be running in public and nothing will cause you to be resented more than doing something that pretentious. The only people who should have weights strapped to them while running or walking are women who have just had babies or the elderly. Do some weight training at home or at a gym and when you go running, just go running and strap as little as possible to yourself because everything you put on your body throws the natural balance off just a little bit. You will probably end up putting undo and unnatural strain on specific parts of your body.

There really aren't any positives. Besides running much slower, you will get injured. Five pounds on each ankle will generate a lot of torque at your hip and the wrist weights will generate a lot of torque at your shoulder.

Don't wear them you will develope shin splints and many other injuries. I can not explain how bad that would be for your legs. Just run if you want to get faster. I asked that when I was beginning to run to an Ohio State cross country coach and he said "that would kill your legs".

ankle weights/wrist will screw up your stride/cadence/arm swing and put added pressure on your joints(like you aren*t putting enough already by jogging).
Ankle & wrist weights are only useful when walking.

If you build up to it slowly then it will be fine and will help build muscle power.
