I am taking \my young son shooting and he can handle a 410. We have an old one in the family I remember shooting 25 years ago. I doubt it has even been shot since then. Is there a way to tell if it is safe or not to shoot? In a worse case scenario, what is likely to happen if I shoot it and something goes wrong, backfire, explode or what?

How do they work? I was thinking and if the sight is above the barrel (where the bullet is coming out of. Then how can you hit what you are shooting at? Because the sight is ABOVE the barrel and not in the barrel

explain please

State of Georgia? Providing that you don't have a record, and have a clean Drivers License, what else do you need to be able to purchase a pistal/handgun for personal protection? Is there a "Waiting Period" or is it possible to purchase one when you first go to buy it? Also, what does a personal protection type of handgun cost? (approximately) Thanks.

I want a handgun with adequate stopping power, a relatively ergonomic grip, and as many worthwhile bells and whistles I can get for a relatively decent price. Any suggestions are welcome.

I have a stainless steel barreled Ruger 10/22 with a black polymer stock and silver receiver, i use these little 1" by 1" peices of cotton patches or something like that made by Hobbs, these patches are made just for cleaning my gun.

but i bought 2 packs with almost 50 in each pack for a buck each, expensive, and i went through 2 packs in one and a half cleaning session.

I understand that you use these swabs because they dont have any stuff on them that would contaminate the gun and put hair and fuzz inside you rifle, but is there anything easier and cheaper to clean my rifle with? i cant use paper towels or toilet paper of any type? any washable rugs? my dad has this blue rag that he uses to clean his car with, that doesnt have any fuzz or stuff sticking out of it. can i use something like that? please reply.

In the future we will be moving ALOT and i want to hunt deer.. You see i will be hunting on military bases because my dad is in the military......and im knew to hunting.....we both are...Anyway i want to hunt deer and i can find game trails because i know what they look like but i may not be able to use a tree stand on this land do to i may not be ble to scout it. So should i buy a blind and set it up next to a game trail ( if i can scout) or should i track the animal? And if i have to track it how do i learn to track the deer are there any books that are good? And to add to this I will not have anyone around who is a freaind who could help me do this......So what should i do?

Has anyone tried Mountain House freeze dried food, both the sweet things like the freeze dried ice cream and the savory entree-type things? How is it? How does it compare to Backpacker's Pantry freeze dried food?

I was wondering about this.

The 1911 is a very old pistol design, it's been around for a very long time. It is tried and has proven itself and the design has changed very little over time. Aside from a few adjustments here and there, it's the same as it was so long ago.

Why is it that on average, 1911 pistols are quite a bit more expensive than other popular pistols? A 1911 from Kimber, Springfield Armory, S&W, SIG, Colt, etc. etc. are almost always over $1000 new.

You can get a brand new Beretta 92/96, Ruger P89, Smith and Wesson metal frame like 4006, CZ75, Glock, and quite a few other models for pretty much 1/2 the price of many of the popular 1911 company models.

What is it that makes the 1911 so much more expensive to produce than so many of these others?

Is racking a pump shotgun really an effective way to encourage an intruder to leave, or does it just serve to give away your location and lose the element of surprise?

Could someone please briefly explain the differences between the two, and which might be better for a begginer (for protection)?

Can either load any .45 ammunition?

Thanks!

I was wondering what you guys would rather have. A Ruger M77 MKII Sporter stainless in 30-06 caliber or a Glock 21 in .45 ACP caliber. I know this is comparing to TOTALLY different things but which would you like better? The Ruger would be used for target shooting with the occasional hunting trip. The .45 would also be used for target shooting. The Glock would be cheaper to shoot and maybe more fun. But I do want another hunting rifle other than my marlin 30/30.
