Check sales at REI or EMS.

Ebay would be good. Or check out craigslist.

(unlike ropes, caribiners, etc. I think it is ok to buy used shoes and boots for climbing).

EMS is selling their Underdog climbing shoes for $29.00 on clearance. I saw some in a store in New jersey on Friday. My guess is you can call the toll free number on the website and they can track down some shoes for you.

They have 5.10 Stealth sole. They have two opposing velcro straps.

I've climbed in them. I wasn't impressed with the fit, but they had pretty good grip and a descect edge. They would be OK for gyms or top-rope climbs where you could take them off in-between climbs. Not good for leads or big-wall stuff. You'll want to take them off after a while.

I have no idea how they feel once they are really broken in. They may fit OK.

Traditional climbing can involve a number of techniques, and the duration of the climbs are equally variable. Typically, for crack climbs or long multi pitch routes, you'll want a flatter, looser fitting shoe. Shoes with a stiffer sole will allow you to stand on edges even when sized larger for comfort. They will also help prevent foot fatigue on longer days. Know that many shoes stretch significantly once worn in. Unlined uppers are comfortable, but stretch more, and may leave you with a shoe than doesn't perform as well as you would like.

You can get them through the internet/mail from discounters like Sierra Trading Post and CampMor but I wouldn't recommend it. Since fit is so extremely important you should go to a climbing outfitter's shop where you can try them on and find which styles and sizes suit your feet and your climbing style (are you going to be doing bouldering, friction climbing, vertical crack systems, direct aid, big walls, etc?) You could find a style and size you want by trying them on and then order for a better price through a catalog, Craigslist or Ebay but you still run the risk that a particular pair might not fit.

When looking to buy climbing shoes it is most important to find something that fits you well.

You should go to your local outdoor retailer or gym and find a shoe that fits your foot well and is appropriate for your desired climbing style.

Once you have done that you can search online for discounted shoes.

just to name a few. I always recommend supporting your local gym though. If you do find a pair cheaper online tell your local gym owner that you found them for X price, but want to support them and a lot of times they will give you the same price.
