If your state has a Long gun or rifle season for turkey then it's fine, but make sure you don't need a license for a black powder tag. Some state require black powder tags because they like to keep statistic on weapons used during the season.
The other thing that you will want to do is take some time to Camo you rifle, Turkey's are great sport birds, but they are smart and quick. Any movement or objects that are not normally seen by them will spook them and the shots gone.
After you have mastered hunting them with black powder try a Bow. This is the ultimate weapon for turkey hunting, you have to draw them right to you and it's just the greatest feeling when you get one at 20 yards with a bow.
Good Luck!

You need to check with your local Game & Fish Commission or DNR to find out if it is legal in your state of residence. It certainly is possible and would work, but you had better be a good shot. Anything but a head shot will mess up a lot of Turkey Meat, and make a VERY large hole. If it's legal to shoot Turkey with a Black Powder Shotgun in your state, I would think you would be OK with a BP Rifle as well.......

You may shoot AT a turkey with any kind of weapon, but shooting a turkey depends on your skill.
Check what is legal to shoot turkeys with in your state as it varies from state to state as to what is legal.

If legal, which I am having a strong feeling it is not, you can kill on with a 50cal. and you really have no other choice but to do a body hit if you really want to kill it. (unless you want to miss with a head shot. It's kind of an all or nothing affair. And more times than not, it will be nothing).

Check the hunting season laws in your state. Some states require certain firearms for certain game, or have a particular season for that firearm. Good luck!

Let me know how much of that Turkey is left after you harvest it with that 50 caliber.* You might want to reconsider, however whatever trips your trigger.*
