i live on a sand bar in nj my ENTIRE life. my boyfriends wants to argue with me about the tides. he wants proof that when it is low tide in the ocean it is high tide in the bay.......the oppostie.....he need prooof

If you live in Northern NJ, check out the Newark Star Ledger, if southern, the Ashbury Park Press, both newspapers and others have tide charters. As far as the bay tides being different than the ocean tide, your boyfriend is right. Sometimes there could be several hours of difference between the tides in the ocean and the back bays.

You did not state where you are now. I assume you are still in NJ. The above site shows NJ tide charts. If you need tide charts from other areas, search "tide charts" Also, tides run according to the moon and "travel" up and down the coast. so the highest tide is not reach at the same time everywhere. It moves. Thats why a tide books are only accurate for a specific area.

How about just observing the tides for a day on your sandbar. Then he would see that low tide in the ocean and bay happen close to the same time. The high tides also. Maybe a picnic lunch?
