In the future we will be moving ALOT and i want to hunt deer.. You see i will be hunting on military bases because my dad is in the military......and im knew to hunting.....we both are...Anyway i want to hunt deer and i can find game trails because i know what they look like but i may not be able to use a tree stand on this land do to i may not be ble to scout it. So should i buy a blind and set it up next to a game trail ( if i can scout) or should i track the animal? And if i have to track it how do i learn to track the deer are there any books that are good? And to add to this I will not have anyone around who is a freaind who could help me do this......So what should i do?

You can get a leafy camo suit, rather like that worn by military snipers. Then, just stand still next to a brushy clump, and the deer won't see you. I suggest you don't try to learn by yourself. It took me a lot of time to learn. Now, I can get a deer pretty much every year, if I hunt. But, I came up empty for years. I wish I could help you learn. I've taught several people, including my daughter. I do envy you the thrill you'll get the first time you actually get your first deer. I've read numerous books, and read hundreds of magazine stories, and learned a lot. It IS a lot of effort and work, but I predict you'll love it. Try to find a sportsman club near you. You may find a good hearted vet eager to help. Good luck. By the way, consider bow hunting. It's a lot more fun than gun hunting. I've gotten 6 racked bucks and numerous does using a bow.

Stalking Deer on a military base is difficult at best and the least productive. Try hunting from a stationary ground blind made with a few fresh cut tree branches as a barrier to hide behind. Build your ground blind close to active trails, but not right on top of them. About 10 yards away with a clear field of fire will be fine. As long as you have the ability to read sign to the point you can see that it's old or fresh is the most important. Fresh Deer scat "droppings" are also a sign of Deer activity. Look for fresh sign around natural water sources that are relatively hidden.Streams, Creek beds, muddy areas or banks are great places to start. Wear camouflage and use a cover scent on your boot heels to cover any human scent you would normally leave behind by walking/scouting your hunting area.

Each base is going to be different about rules, and availability may be a problem. You don't need a blind. I couldn't count the number of times I've had deer walk within a few feet of me sitting on the ground, and I've killed some older bucks that should have known better from knife-fighting range. Stalking is fun, too, and I even prefer it, but it's a lot less productive.

I prefer Death from above to harvest Deer.* Get up in a tree after you have located where they are frequenting game trails, Buck rubs.* One of the best spots is to locate an apple tree & set up near it.*

First go to the Provost Marshall and ask him if hunting is permissable on federal land. Then take it from there.
