Is Fedor really as great as everyone thought? Maybe he is heavy on illegal substances? Maybe Couture beats? After the dismal showing of the pride fighters you really have to wonder how great Fedor really is?

From my point of view, TKD is a very effective martial arts, legs have more power and cover more distance than fists so TKD kicks can cripple an opponent easily. However there are some critics about TKD that doubts about its street effectiveness, I never use my TKD skills in real life, so i don't know about it. Do you think TKD is effective in a street fight, especially for those who has applied TKD in a real street fight? In street fight, i mean that you are fighting someone who doesn't have any MA experience (common brawler) although he looks tough.

i have praticed with both and in my opinion the vertical punch is better. i know i can go faster and add more power. with the stright punch i either hurt my wrist or dont get enough speed and power.

what are your thought?

My brother and soon-to-be sweet angel of a husband are debating over martial arts. They both won't stop until they have an answer. Both believe in hard-driven facts. So, if they don't have facts they won't stop. They're out for blood. Please, someone help my poor ears. :)

Its been famous for ages but I just can't seem to find any evidence where Kung Fu has really shined in all its glory that its hyped up to be. The only art that redeems itself for me is Wing Chun, which is very effective in a fight, especially punches down the centerline in a straightline.

But what about Choy Li Fut? Praying Mantis? Eagle style? Five Animals?

I've been such a Kung Fu addict (not the movie type) for so long that I find it frustrating how a simple search of Muay Thai on YouTube can produce dozens of amazing fight videos but a Kung Fu search has only a few real fight scenes. More of them loosing then winning too.

Whats the deal, Kung Fu?

i have spoken to 5 different military instructors and they said that it is "proven" more effective than wrestling?
i asked them you dont wear gis. and they said that soilders were uniforms, coats, sweaters, and that the throw a lot without them.
so why does the military use judo over wrestling? like how is there a big difference?

This is at the end of the dude's nidan test. The test is 2 hours long and then he has to show technical skill against random attacks though not in a full contact manner of course. I recorded the vid and he did pass the test.

The test itself is essentially a formality because of the many pre-tests but it is not a cakewalk.

so i was watching some dudes fight on youtube. whats the most effective way of taking someone out? I've seen people take numerous elbows to their face and they dont go down. I've seen people get their nose broken but they keep going... seems like humans can really endure hits and they are same wieght class about 170 pounds.

so i'm thinking like superman punching someone in the throat or when you get them down, repeatedly kick their face??

I'm not saying this to beat someone up, i just want to know what is effective and what isn't because wheat I thought was effective actually doesn't look like it.. thanks =D

I'm planning on starting a regiment that involves training in water, and some technique training with weights
I have ankle weights, and a vest. They're ok, but I know the ankle/wrist weights aren't good on the joints when you strike (Though dumbells work ok in the right hands), and the added weight on my torso area is better for things such as pushups than striking for example.

I was just wondering: Does anyone know of any weights specifically meant for martial arts techniques, or a suit of some sort? If you do: Does it work the entire limb equally?

I remember that Hoyce Gracie guy used to kick everyone's butt with submission holds. Now it's all wigger type of people like Chuck Lidell. This isn't a sport. It's 2 idiots who get in a cage and kick each others butts. All these guys are knuckleheads and on roids. Put them on skates, and any hockey player would take them down, put them in a real ring, and any pro boxer would take them down. These guys are just the loser bullies who we grew up with in school. I can't wait for the day when someone actually dies in the ring so they will finally put an end to this barbaric "sport" This isn't a sport, it's the modern day Gladiator. Put them in a ring with a Tiger like Russell Crowe and lets see who wins. Mark my words, the day someone dies in the ring or because of injuries sustained, is the day this "sport" will be shut down. It's a step up from dog fighting. Michael Vick should try out to be a UFC fighter, since his days of football are over.

I understand you get what you pay for so i've decided to stay away from some places because while they are cheap they don't seem very good. I'm 19 yrs old and have no kind of past martial arts experience. I'm looking for adult begginer classes preferably in manhattan. I don't really plan on seeing it thee whole way through. I'm just looking to move up a couple belts and feel like i can defend myself. After which belt would i most likely be able to succefully defend myself against would be attackers on the street? I'm not looking to be a black belt just do a year or two or however long it would take me to have the skill necessary to fend off attacker.
