Been doing karate for a little while now and would like to know what the whole thing of bowing and saying 'ush' at the start of the session is all about and where it came from. My instructor said it's all to do with respect, but I would like to know more if anyone can help

With the internet now, you can easily look up his life history and phsyical/mental feats. Go to his wikipedia page, scrool down a little, and you can get a list.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruce_Lee

Yet I was browsing many martial arts forums and with those popular "best martial artists ever" threads. Anyone who nominated Bruce Lee was flamed.

Whats the deal?

I have huge shoulders & bones already and I am still growing so I don't want to make them larger or become really bulky. Also since I am still growing I don't want the muscles to tighten through martial arts and now grow anymore!
I want to attend because I've always been interested in martial arts, and I'm willing to put in an hour a day of practice and more for when there is class.
My knee is quite weak and I would like a lighter, more flexible type of martial arts, not like the kind where size does matter.
Please help !
also, I am a girl.

when sparring do you have a set tacticve planned or do you go with the flow, i would like to conterattack but im to slow, and when your going toe to toe with someone do you use the bob and weave method or do you you counterattack.
when going toe to toe i feel very unsafe i normaly feel my opponent out with some jabs and then maybe some flurryes

and one final thing do you train to music, is that okay so when your shadow sparring can you listnen to music
and how do you get ur hands faster, i am not rich and cant afford weights, what tools can i use around the house to increase hand speed eg filled up milk cartans
and i dont have a heavy bag

thanks

I've seen him in some pretty violent fights. I have seen him fight guys who abushed him. I've seen him fight people with weapons. I have seen him men much larger than him. And I have seen him fight multiple people at once. Was there anyone in the world during that time that could have kicked his butt? I personally don't think so.

Is it your natuaral frame?Do you eat more to gain weight or do you eat less to gain weight?

Im comfuse because when i watch boxing, kick boxing or martial arts I see fighters try to lose weight.Your weight can be your bone structure, fat,or muscles. Most of the time i see them trying to lose weight and some are fat like bobb sapp and buterbea.Could some one who is a coach in that stuff or a fighter who competes explain to me how it works?

I've seen people do breaking techniques where they break the last board in a set but not the first one..What is this energy and is it real or just a gimmick? Also does it add more power of more destructive power to kicks and punches?

Will Kimbo Slice beating a very past his prime boxer and a very past his prime 1 dimensional MMA fighter really make him think he is for real in the MMA world? Sure the guy can punch, but he should stick with fighting bums on the street. If he thinks he is for real, and wants to make a name for himself......Wouldn't he be better off fighting real MMA fighters, even if he just starts by fighting journeymen with poor records?!

Give facts when answering this question! I don't want a silly answer such as "Bruce Lee could jump over a skyscraper with no legs!"

I already seen the video of him doing it, BUT then again I saw Criss Angel walk on water! And I think we can all agree Criss Angel can't REALLY walk on water!

Actually it looked like he pushed the guy who was standing COMPLETELY straight and the guy lost balance. Plus the guy was a willing partner!
