I am 24, 205 lbs, and I would not say that I am in bad shape physicly. What do I need to do to be fit for it, and how would I find a dojo or any learning center? Do such places have a sign up time, like a simester, or do I sign up at any time? Also, about how much will it cost?

In all honesty what would you do !!!!

Would you face multiple opponents in a real situation
would you face a live weapon.
or would you run away if that was an option

i'm thinking about putting my 6 year old in karate. He is very rambunctious, loves fighting type games, movies, cartoons, etc. I am hoping that if he was taught about fighting, he would take it more seriously. Any one have any comments or experiences with this?

Please answer only from your own experience, events you have seen with your own eyes and not what you guess might happen.

In a 1-on-1 brawl, not involving weapons, where one fighter is significantly taller, heavier or bulkier than the other, does the smaller of the two stand no chance (if they are still fit, just slim-build).

Thanks

I am really into martial arts and competitive fighting. I have only taken about 2 (official) years of Karate training, but I am very interested in ALL styles of fighting and martial arts. I recently bought my very first Shinai (Bamboo Kendo Training Sword), and I don't any training/practice sword techniques. I can't afford any books/dvds, or schools right now. Can anyone help me find something on the internet for free that could help me? (Preferably Visual Training I am a Visual Learner.)!

ok so in my long time in the Kung Fu community, I stumbled across the Wudang mountain style of Kung Fu and they are teaching their disciples some formations that they claim that "could" survive attack from 50 opponents from all directions, armed or not(although they are only 6 of them) do you think this is possible??? Some people told me that MAYBE it is possible ONLY if they are not so outnumbered, what do you think???

Mas Oyama did defeat a bull with his barehand (unlike the matador he doesn't use weapon) so can someone like him defeat a gorilla? I pick the gorilla over other animal is because the ape have feature similar to us, some say they are our ancestor.

One of my instructors is keen on teaching knees, elbows, joint locks, "small digit manipulation" (finger breaking) and even head butts (if you can squeeze one in safely while grappling), and "softening" (striking low, fast and hard). This is more for the adult or advanced students. It seems like a lot of people here don't do that in their TKD programs. I am about to join a more sport oriented TKD school, so I don't expect to find this there. Thanks for helping!

As I read this forum and I reflect on my own training and the effort I put into it for self defense. I wonder, is it all that useful?

Wing Chun upper body movement, High School Wrestling for ground, Tang Soo Do for lower body movement, all great arts for me. But how useful is it against someone in the streets of Detroit with a gun or knife?

Grappling is argued to be one of the most effective ways to defeat your opponent on a 1 on 1 basis. But being a close range ground art and having an opponent 15 feet away with a gun, how are you gonna cover the distance before getting sport?

Striking, namely fast hard kicks, have been spoken of to defeat many opponents at one time and would be a better option to pick then. However, there's still distance to cover and my even the longest of legs do not exceed 4 and a half feet. How else are you to cover the distance?

What I'm saying is, with the availability of guns/knives, combined with their ease of use. How useful truly martial arts today?
