In the book of five rings, Musashi talks about maintaining a combat stance all throughout your life? How does this combat stance look? The first one to get me a video of the combat stance will win 10 points automatically!

I have recently become fascinated with self-improvement and martial arts and would like to explore some styles.

I have done Tae Kwon Do for over 6 years, but I feel that in my current dojo there is a lack of competition and ways to test myself.

I was researching Wing Chun and I am now very interested in the style and it's philosophies. I have found a Sifu who I think might be very good as he trained directly under Sifu Lo Man Kam, and believes that the key to using Wing Chun in a fight successfully is the mastery of and knowing when to be soft or hard. So I am going to take a look into this school this Thursday and I am looking forward to it very much.

However I still have a thirst for more. What is another style that would cover for all the weaknesses within my base of Tae Kwon Do and my new fascination with Wing Chun?

I found out that my girlfriend was cheating on me with her ex boyfriend. I wasn't thinking but I I told him that he had better back off, he said " Or what?" I told him that I was going to kick his ***. I don't know what I got myself into because this guy is a black belt in karate and told me that he would fight me tomorrow, no weapons just hand to hand. I said okay, you're dead. I am actually really scared because I know this dude could chew me up and spit me out. If I cancel the fight, he will think I am a coward. What should I do? I don't want to get hurt, I was just running my mouth.

I want to know an effective way of training my reflexes so that when a punch, kick, whatever comes at me, I can react much quicker then I do now. I already practice blocking technics and such so that they can become second nature, but they don't do anything if i can't use them quick enough when needed (be it sparring or in a real fight).

Notice: i dont have anyone to train with so I'm looking for ways to train by myself.

I'm 5'10" and weigh 205 pounds. I lift almost every day so I am mostly muscular. I know these factors can make or break you in a fight, so those out there with a lot of fighting experience please tell me my advantages and disadvantages. Thank you.

Hi there. I've recently decided to get back into shape, and I'm soon going to be hitting the gym again and improve my fitness and build up muscle. In addition to normal weight training and cardio, I wish to take up a martial art to help me in these goals, as well as have the potential for self-defense.

My university's Athletics Union offers the following clubs:
Judo
Karate
Mixed Martial Arts and Appled Defence
Muay Thai
Ninjutsu
Tukong Moosul

I'm a very tall guy with a reasonably large frame, but who at present doesn't have much muscle. What would be most suitable for me in your opinions. I know most people will name their own discipline as being the best, but I'd like to hear some opinions in any case.

Thanks in advance.

Well, we all know that you get different types of blows. Which is more damaging though? I hear people saying punch 'through' the opponent, while others just 'snap' at it. Some want to penetrate '2 inches' into it.

Basically, whats the most damaging, and why? If it's also the same amount of force, would the amount of energy and power transferred be different too?

It's true, Fedor has signed a UFC contract. He will be making 1.8 million per fight and is locked in for 4 fights at this point. He is being allowed to compete in sambo competitions, but the Russian co-promotion with UFC is not happening. Fedor's management was upset about that, but Fedor himself insisted on the contract anyway because he wanted to fight where they had the biggest concentration of the best of MMA HW's.

I am not even going to bother posting this to Sherdog, I was flamed way too much last time I broke news and didn't appreciate it. I'm sure this will make it there soon though. The official announcement will be made right before the main event of UFC 75.
In case you didn't know, BobSappFan broke the news that the UFC purchased Pride, which Dana White denied, but a few weeks later the announcement was made.

First round – shitei or sentei kata
Second round – sentei or tokui kata
Third round – sentei or tokui kata
What? Do any of these relate to the Heian katas? Should I enter a competition if I don't even know the answer to this question? Or is the exercise in team spirit worthy of the humiliation? Just kidding on that last one

after seeing krav maga on the human weapon, it actualy shows how innafective bjj is and maybe judo is on the self defence side
i did bjj and loved it but now i start to see that you dont realy want to go to the ground with your opponent if they have a knife
that mma fighter would have been killed

i like judo, i think its a good sport, if judo does strikes i think it would be a great martial art if it dosent already include strikes
whats your opinoin, so in fact karate and kung fu actualy do have a good grip on self defence apart from taekwondo which is utter bullshido

thanks
