If you see video of him, it is not at all impressive. Besides, he died before most of you were even born.

There are so many TRUE Martial Artists with great lineage out there.

I need tips on how to become more well rounded in my fights, I fight MMA for my gym (disclosed information) and am currently 6-0 in my "professional career" but the problem is that 4 or which where against very good strikers, and I brought it to the ground and submitted, I want to be able to take the offensive on my feet, the next 2 fights where against more "matt hughes" types, and again instead of standing them up I played the round game... I need to be able to stand up in fights, but I just feel more comfotable on the ground... any suggestions?? what can I do to help this?? I started training muay thai, and boxing.. anthing else I should try??

One of my loved ones wanted his ashes poored in an iron mold and used to make 4 identical swords. Preferably Japanese style Samuri or Chinese Katanas. The issue is I can't find a sword maker that forges his own iron, they all get iron bars and cut it into shape. Is there anyone in the world that can do this? There was money set aside in a trust to accomplish the deed, we just can't find the sword smith. We are willing to travel to Asia, Europe, South Pacific to get it done. The swords must all be identical in wieght, length, width, design, and strength.

I have practiced Tae Kwon Do, Kickboxing and wrestling on and off for about 25 years now. While I feel confident in fighting someone that is about my same size, I would be very hesitant to fight someone significantly larger than me. Does anyone have any opinions about what styles of fighting are better for fighting opponents that are 50 to 100 lbs heavier than you?

Anyone can answer, but I am curious about Martial Art studies.
The top countries that I can think of are:
Thailand- Muay Thai
Philippines- Arnis-Escrima-Kali
Brazil- Brazilian Jujitsu, Capoeira
Hong Kong- Kung Fu, Tai Chi
Japan-a) Okinawa- Karate or b) Kyoto/Tokyo- Judo

This question is mostly just for fun. Whomever gives the best where and why, gets the 11 points.

is karate good for self defense? ive been watching videos of sparring on youtube, and all they show is people, even at the higher levels, just punching and kicking the crap out of each other with no particular style...like anyone normally fights without any training. Maybe they just have bad videos on there and karate's really very good? Can karate be good for self defense in street situations...will it give you the training you need in pretty much any situation? Also, do you have to be a body builder to win a fight? Would kung fu maybe be better?

I have been studying Martial Arts, weapons, physical fitness and self defense for over 40 years. I taught kenpo karate from October 2003 until May 2007. The proprietor of first place I taught went out of business due to a lack of advertising. The second and last place I taught (Tilton Fitness Center) refused to allow advertising within the business for my instruction. It is very difficult to retain students and attract new ones without advertising, which can be very expensive. I reside in the Atlantic County area of NJ. If anyone out there can help or guide me in a positive direction it would be greatly appreciated. Also, if you are in need of a Martial Arts or Self Defense instructor for your business and you are local to me please send an email to senseimiller@comcast.net.

Is Kung Fu good for self defense? If so, which style is the most effective? I want to be able to take down an attacker in any situation on the street, so what would be best for me to learn?

I am going on 25-years old & I am thinking about trying martial arts again for the third time. I tried it when I was 14, then when I was 19, now at almost at age 25, I am thinking of doing it again. But I really don't wanna waste my money or time. When I was 14, I tried Jeet-Kune-Do. Then at 19, I tried Chinese Kung-Fu. I'm a life long Bruce Lee fan. Those styles worked for him, but not for me cause I learned nothing from either style. I am not really a physical person. I've always been a big guy and kinda on the chubby side. Not so much more now though, but I am still big. So if I get back into martial arts, what kind of school should I go to? And does martial arts really work in fist fights or is it all for show? Cause most fights I see are guys laying on the ground, wrestling. It seems like UFC ground fighting is the best style out there.

20yrs ago I practiced shotokan karate and felt at the time the stances where irrevilent for fighting ,but having matured lol, I've came to realise that the purpose was for strengthening and flexibility reasons and not for fighting per'se

Your thoughts please !!!!!!!!!!

okay so i love sparring and i compete all the time, so when i practice i like to get a good fight in. i dont like fighting the girls becuase they are not aggressive enough (no offence, i am a girl anyway)

so when i fight the guys i expect a good fight, but it absolutely PISSES ME OFF when they inisist on going easy on me, i am one of the best fighters in my school, but still the some guys go easy on me, they say "your a girl, i'm not going to go all out".

i would like a good fight! if they beat the **** out of me, all the better, i train harder and try agian next time.

____________

one more subject, the people who cannot fight a decent fight but put all the power into one hit, your not trying to break your opponants ribs. recently i was fighting this guy who could absolutely not get one hit on me, at the ned he through an incredibly strong kick at my stomach and ended up cracking a rib. ^_^

(rant over, do give your two cents!)

I recently continued my Tae Kwon Do, i'm a blue with red stripe. However I started TKD a bit too late, now I am 15 years old and i know my body isn't as flexible as the other TKD practitioner that starts much younger. For daily stretching, i usually do the same stretching as in the TKD classes, but maybe there are other ways especially since I am in Indonesia and Indonesia's TKD isn't as good as other countries esp.Korea. What daily exercise or stretching should i do to make my body esp. legs very flexible in the shortest period of time, so my kicks will be better?

I currently don't belong to any martial arts organization, and my sensei remained fairly seperate from them, though he did join the United Isshinryu Council for a short period in the 90s. I know our lineage, which is good enough for me. (legitimacy of style) I know people though who are proud of their organization and the apparant legitimacy it can give it's blackbelts. What are the benefits to these organizations. I already know many of the downfalls. (political bickering, the thought your version of a style is better than students who belong to another body)

Because that's what i've read, but i've heard that some school might not, but for those that do, do you learn pretty much the same stuff as in Kenjutsu or just a little bit? In short, do you learn basic Japanese swordmanship in Aikido? I also heard that it teaches Bo Staff?

Thanx in advance for your help, peace out.

For whatever martial art you do that requires gear do you buy high quality for an extra price or cheap stuff. For instance boxing gloves would you buy some synthetic $20 Everlast at Walmart or some genuine leather $70 Grants? Or does it not even matter to you?
