Basically, who won?

Depends on who you ask.

Bruce Lee's people say it lasted 3 minutes or so with Bruce winning, and Wong running from him at one point.

Wong Jack Man, and William Chen state it lasted 20-25 minutes and that Wong had won.

It was a private match, with very few witnesses, and is part of the whole mystique.

Who knows what really happened, you get skewed accounts from both sides.

Should have been a public match if you ask me. The whole thing could still just have been drummed up for publicity also. So there is no real telling I guess.

Wrong idiots. It didn't happen that way. Bruce Lee was arrogant and was challenging different systems, including a system whose master was a friend of Bruce Lee's master. When the master turned Bruce Lee down, Bruce was berating him and finally fed up, he slapped Bruce in the face and told him to leave, which he did. This is just one of many incidents of Bruce's childish and immature behavior. Master Wong Jack Man wanted it to be a friendly fight, but Bruce would not have it. He wanted to fight to the death, and while shaking Wong's hand, did a biu jee (finger strike) that nicked Wongs above his eyebrow. This was the only mark on Wong's face, by the way. If Bruce had beaten him so badly, why didn't he have any marks on him except that one? This is also why he was backing up constantly. In the end, it turned out to be a 25 minute fight in which it was called a tie. Here is the link for the REAL story about Bruce lee and his arrogance:

Wong claims he won, while according to Bruce, he won, but not convincingly enough since he spent most of the time chasing Wong around and trying to knuckle punch the back of his head or something to that effect which left him winded, this incident was what motivated him to create the Principles of Jeet Kune Do, wherein he didn't limit his arsenal of skills to one style or range only. Anyway, the fight was supposed to settle the argument over Bruce's right to teach non-chinese students the martial arts. Before he came, only chinese students were accepted and taught by the Chinatown community, Bruce was quite the maverick and taught anyone who was interested. The terms of the fight was, if Wong who represented the local traditional chinese martial arts community won the fight, then Bruce would stop teaching, But if Bruce won, then he can teach anybody he liked whether Chinese or not. Since Bruce continued to teach non-chinese students after the incident and didn't seem to have been hindered by the other schools, it would seem he won the right to do so.

Right. It could be either, but I'm of the opinion that they never fought, and just made up the story for publicity.
