While you shouldnt focus on the belt itself, there isnt anything wrong with wanting to know how long it takes to get to black belt.
But as you can see by the first bunch of answers, it varies from dojo to dojo and from style to style and from teacher to teacher. And then it depends on the student...sheesh... so yeah, there is no concrete answer.
The best thing to do would be to talk to your teacher and the senior students in the class. They will say the same things everyone here has said but they will be able to give you a more accurate picture of the average time frame in your specific school (as they know the style, school and teacher...the only thing they cannot guess on is you...).
Good luck and enjoy your training!

It takes 10 years to become a genuine black belt in Brazilian Jujitsu.

Karate- Can take 6-10 years.

Judo- 6-10 years

Tae Kwon Do- 2 to 5 years.

McDojo rates are available of course. You just pay the fee, get your certificate, and the black belt in one day. More commonly they probably reward a black belt in 2-3 years regardless of age or ability, more to do with the length of the contract. There are probably a lot of in between too, like video courses, and Internet courses. (if not now there will be.) The only obstacle is that it is free to become a Wikipedia or YouTube black belt, where a person just looks up the answers like an online role playing game. On here, that would be the most popular.

The point is that belts are not a reliable system of determining how much or how long a person has studied anymore. Of course inside your school belts can still be very important. Setting goals and achieving them will come about more often than belt test. Do not be afraid to approach your teacher about this sort of question, because inside his school it will matter more than anywhere else, except in your heart of course.

Good luck.

It completely depends on how fast you learn, your school, your instructor, and how hard you work at it. Some mcdojos you can "buy" a black belt in like a year or two. Just to give you some vague idea, it takes (very roughly) between 5 and 7 years to get a black belt at my jujitsu school. But again, that really depends on a lot of things. You can be relatively proficient in your art (and should be) long before you reach a black belt, anyway. Try not to get too caught up the belts...it's much more important that you are learning the art and able to effectively defend yourself. Good luck!

2 years is nothing - really not long enough to gain a black belt! As for how long it "should" take... that really depends. On lots of things. In my personal opinion, it should take at least 5 years. It depends on the person though, it's a matter of having the right attitude as well as having the right moves when you get up to dan grades. I know for arts like aikido, courses with the masters in Japan can give you a black belt after a year. They are extremely intensive courses, and I don't doubt the ability of those who pass those courses, but I think that it's too short a time to really get to know anything of real value. First dan should really be seen as the beginning really, though. I've always been taught that you are classed as a beginner up until you get your shodan. At that point, you have a good grasp of the basics and can get to work learning karate for real. If I had to put a figure on it, I'd say it should require 5 years. With most of the associations I know, it takes between 3-3.5 years in actuality. That is grading every three months, with a little longer before taking shodan.

Well being a black belt and breaking blocks and stuff contribute nothing to being good at fighting except a small confidence booster. Fighting is experience and skill. Theres alot more to it but those would be the most important. So my tips are worry more about the experience your getting. Don't be afraid to spar. But getting black belts really does just depend on you but any semi-respectable schools even franchises your gonna expect about 3 - 3.5 years but hardcore teachers and thats what you want it will probably take 4-10 years depending on how well you do. I see mostly 4 or 5 years tho.

O yea and getting to a first degree blackbelt isn't really all that great you gotta get past the first degree for it to settle. because first degree is still only preparation for blackbelt

I advocate that you just train to keep going, however....
It usually takes between 2-13 years depending on style. Good schools will either have a sort of discretionary basis of promotion, or they will have a minimum set point for the belt regardless of how fast you progress with the other ones. Karate and Jujutsu tend to be in the median, but they also have intense black belt test in some settings (Especially jujutsu.. That's not a bad thing though ;) ).

Check with your teachers and good luck.

Depends on person to person.
How much training do you do outside the school?
You can be good and still not be a black belt. If skills are what you're looking for, don't worry about the belt.
Practice, practice, practice. Then practice some more.

I'm not sure of the Jujitsu curriculum at your school, because there are various school of Jujitsu. (Aiki-jujitsu, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Japanese Jujitsu) Depending on the school, it should take between 3 and 8 years.
