i have been training for 5 months in muay thai, mma, and a little bit of bjj, my buddy who had to leave for football for a couple of months asked if he could fight when he comes back, and the coach said yes i can get you in some junior fights. The thing is should i ask him if i can fight, or wait for him to ask me?

I am beginning a wushu class in a few weeks and was wondering how the levels are "ranked." Are there different color belts for different levels like in karate? How long does it take to move up each level? (I am already in good physical shape - marathon runner/triathlete). Oh, and i am female, 4'10", and 90 lbs.

My wife Megan (Mee-Gun, not May-Gun you people) was soaked with tears after listening to the profanities that were spewed out by all these beer drinking fans.

I spent the last two hours covering her ears and eyes while this obscene behavior continued! What is wrong with these people, these "beer" types? This was even with being in the luxury suite!

Is it impossible for a gentleman to take his lady out for the evening without being accosted by vulgarity?

i want to do some self-defense training, karate can be used wherever i go, but a robber will defnitely have a knife and unarmed combat skill seems trivial in such a case. In a peaceful time, no combat skill is needed at all and i need not learn even karate, and in dangerous time, i don't mind going around with a nunchunk in my belt like a cowboy in the west.

I've just taken up krav maga, and have some nasty bruises and pain in my right forearm (it was from practising block defences against knife attack). Others tell me that my arms will 'harden up', and get used to it. I'm not sure I believe this, and am thinking of buying some forearm pads (and some shin pads and a groin guard while I'm at it). Is it true that my boney forearms will harden up?

it bothers me when people say "oh but theres no real fighting" or "ya cant learn anything from sparring"

sparring allows you to understand your moves, it helps you become a better fighter. when i was 15 or so my mom would always get upset becuase after i sparred i would come home drenched in sweat and have some kind of injury, i would be throwing up sometimes becuase of the intensity. it all really helped i competetively sparr in full contact and point sparring.

people say its not real fighting, it is, although its controlled, your still learning how to use your moves in a real fight, if need be, just becuase of the rules does not mean it will cripple your abilities. you havta fight in a controlled fight if you are going to get better, right?

(WHO AGREES WITH ME?)

I want to learn some self defence hand to hand techniques.

Anyone know any good sites on the net?

P.S Karate and Kung Fu etc, etc are NOT useable or practical in modern urban society...

Defensible techniques that are useable in Urban settings are good thanks :)

I'm just starting to learn and will take 2 (1.5 hour) group classes a week and 1 (1-hour) private a week. I learn pretty quickly and study at home as well. I've trained in 7-animal style kung fu and tae kwon do, but Wing Chun is quite different so I'm not sure about the learning curve. Please, only Wing Chun practitioners. Thank you!
