I practice TKD. I'm supposed to practice my forms & techniques and weight-train, but I just can't seem to stick with it.

HELP ME!!!

The motivation is either in you or its not. I don't think anyone can tell you anything that will make you more motivated if you really aren't. Perhaps you should take a break and come back to TKD when you are motivated and its really something you want to do...for whatever your reasons are.

Try practicing your forms in a mirror listening to a high energy song you like. Seeing yourself in the mirror while doing the moves does a couple of things. One, you can notice if you are using proper form and techniques. Two, watching yourself while the music is playing can "pump" you up. You'll start to see improvements in your forms and your physique. The same goes true for weight training. Also, it helps to have someone working out with you. Find somebody that can help keep you motivated and who makes sure you keep up with it. You'll find yourself starting to enjoy your workouts because you will start to see some real results. And hey, there might be days where you don't feel like working out. That's okay. That's what your partner is for. I've had some of my better workouts when I wasn't feeling my best. I had a buddy that went with me and he helped to keep me going. Hey, stay motivated and you'll see results in no time.

Martial Arts are my passion, and I practice twice a week (though I'm trying to get it in more). Try going in with a friend and have them motivate you. Who goes to the gym that you know? If you don't know anyone, get a personal trainer? If that isn't your fancy, try thinking about what you have on the line.

You are taking Tae Kwon Do for a reason. Everyone has a reason for everything, as much as they might admit that they don't. What is your reason?

Are you doing just because you have to? If so, that will not motivate you.

Do you love Tae Kwon Do? If so, you can find a way to get passionate about doing the weight training.

Is it for a grade? My karate class I'm taking is to fulfill my passion of martial arts and I have it for a grade. I have a grade on the line, and I am paying dearly to take this class (college, you know). I have a grade on the line and it is something I love to do. That motivates me big time.

People are willing to help. Never forget that. If you have trouble with motivation, try getting someone to encourage you. There are many ways to get what you need to do done. Sometimes it requires help, and sometimes raw determination. Decide what position you are in. Do you need help or is it a lack of trying? Either way, you can persevere.

Maybe you are bored with your school or art?

Expand yourself by going to other schools to see if you find something more interesting.

Did your teacher tell you that you have to do weight training? Not that it's not good, just that you should do it if you want to. In my art, weight training is part of the art, but the apparatus used and method are called HOJO UNDO. Do a google search and you will see what the weights look like.

Check out other things. Don't decide that you like or love something until you've tried other things.

And, the only person you have to remain loyal to, is you. Your teacher is happy unless the payments stop coming in. Loyalty is too over-rated.

I was loyal to my own detriment. The point where I gave myself to receive injury and it was "good" for me... it "made me strong".

Be open minded, for your benefit.

Remember, motivation come from the inside. From wanting it. I am sure you want it. Something that helps me a lot is listening to music while I workout. Or workout with other people. Also, try doing your techniques in numerous ways. Like kicks and what not, do them in ways you wouldn't normally do them. Make it interesting. When doing blocks, do them open hand and more of a fluid motion, you will be amazed at how much more normal and fast it will feel and become. Don't allow yourself to be limited, express yourself through your style. But one of the biggest motivational factors for me is music and doing htem in different ways. Hope this helps. I have a hard time understanding why you don't want to get better! I find the desire to improve almost an obsession. Have you had a belt testing yet? If not, bombing in front of your fellow martial artist will be mortifying. Make a deal with your self. Do your form 5 times in the morning and 5 times at night. Have someone video while you do your form so that you may see what needs to improve.
Something to consider....If you don't love it, why are you doing it?

everyone has good suggestion, use music that gets up pumped, watch martial arts video highlights, practice in front of a mirror, the embarassement of screwing up in front of the class, all that stuff should help motivate you.
but if you are just bored with the routines, mix it up, just throw some kicks and punches around for fun, you'll get warmed up from goofing around, then you can be serious and train.

otherwise ninjas might attack and you won't be prepared, you don't want that to happen

Have a process. Listen to music that pumps you up. Before you start your work out start the music. Get your gear on and get your water bottle. Use this time to get pumped up. Focus on what you expect to get out of working out - ie strong, fit, tough etc.

Other tips:

1. Practice at the same time everyday with a friend to keep you in check.

2. When ever you feel like you should work out - DO SOMETHING RIGHT THEN. Even if it is a small set of pushups, jump rope or one set of curls. Act instantly on positive impulses in your life and procrastinate on negative impulses.

You're asking for advice, that's a good start.
Get off the computer and train.
When you think of stopping, look at the wall with the print out of all the answers you've received and go back to training.

well for one, are creatures of habit, once you do something long enough you will want to do it all the time. So even if you really dont feel like training on your own time do it any way if it is just for 30 min or so, then once you do it for like say a week or so, then your body and mind will want to go further and then before you know it you are doing it for hours on in.
