I've been wanting to practice this type of kung fu, (ever since reading how many people die in a year by Serial killers) So I wanted some defense and since i've heard it can only be learned in some other country, I want to learn online but everytime I look for the moves, exercises and techniques, I just find all the history. Care to suggest a website?

I watch a lot of MMA and was thinking of taking up grappling, but my friend said it is useless in the real world.
He said that as soon as I take a fight to the ground, a friend of the guy Im fighting will just stomp on my head. And going to the ground makes it harder to flee if you need to. Is this true?
What should I take then?

I'd prefer answers from ppl who have studied a "formal" art and Muay Thai... is there a distance you think it would be better, or jus throw it out all together...

I see most tkd being taught for sport but is it a viable martial art for self defense and would it be effective if used against the average man (untrained) in the street?

i would choose kulk or is it kook sul kwan, why because from what i understand i works w/ the points that acupunturests (hope i spelled it right) work on for an attack, and it has a ground game like jujitsu. thats only what i got when i looked it up, i have never seen or have practiced it.

or is it just me? Hell, a main event for lidell and jardine after they both got their asses beat down?...who would want to see
that? OK, so some die hard chuck fans may want to see if the
jackson thing was a fluke, or if he is indeed as old & tired as he appeared in that one. But why Jardine?....maybe they should
have put chuck in with that guy who destroyed jardine.
and what's it say when a non-champion in Pride destroys what is touted as your best guy (UFC)? So no matter who wins
between jackson and henderson, you have a Pride guy ruling
what was supposed to be the UFC's best class...

In your opinion, how much cross training do you need to be able to consider yourself a mixed martial artist? Personally, it's just a title to me, but I know some people take it seriously.
(Note: I do not do much cross training and am not claiming to be a MMA)

Fanboys are not allowed to use time on the couch watching Pride, UFC, ect. when describing their training.

Specifically the knowlageble educated artists/people. When someone asks a question and others answer with made up stories or rumours. Like who invented this Martial art? and they give some bs story about it's creator being some ancient warior and how it was created thousands of years ago. Mean while the style is barely 50 years old.

Then when you give your educated answer you get emails from other users or the asker insulting you or telling you you don't know anything etc...

This appears to happen to me and some others I know of quite a bit.
I know alot of the regulars specifically people who have been on here for a long time. Are getting tired of the same old BS questions and answers on here.

Oh and for the ones who are gonna answer and saysomething stupid, thatnks for proving my point.

I'm going to Thailand for some intense Muay Thai training.
I'm planning to become a professional fighter.

Any advice? Anything at all? I can't speak Thai and I don't know much about that country. Is there anything I should know before I get there?

2007-08-24 07:40:36 · 11 answers · asked by Reaper 6

To all you amateurs who dont know what your talking about, striking someone in the throat can very well kill them, and instead of simply defending yourself against the school bully, your gonna be defending yourself against your cell mate when you get charged for murder. I know anybody who says "punch him in the throat" hasnt taken any martial art ever, because any art teaches against that, so leave the advice to people who know what theyre talking about.

Hello,
This will sound daft but a fella I know around the pubs is always threatening me in a joking way. He has a reputation and is big so I feel he may get physical at some stage. I am not scared by him, but could do with some confidence to deal with it when it happens ( I say when cos I feel it is bound to happen at some stage). I have tried avoiding him, but he searches me out.
Can anyone recommend a method I could learn easily for when the time comes? I don't want to hurt him or anybody, just keep myself safe. Anything you can learn from a video, perhaps?
