Specifically the knowlageble educated artists/people. When someone asks a question and others answer with made up stories or rumours. Like who invented this Martial art? and they give some bs story about it's creator being some ancient warior and how it was created thousands of years ago. Mean while the style is barely 50 years old.
Then when you give your educated answer you get emails from other users or the asker insulting you or telling you you don't know anything etc...
This appears to happen to me and some others I know of quite a bit.
I know alot of the regulars specifically people who have been on here for a long time. Are getting tired of the same old BS questions and answers on here.
Oh and for the ones who are gonna answer and saysomething stupid, thatnks for proving my point.

Wow. Very enlightening. But unfortunately somene asking about how many fights Bruce Lee was in and another person saying he was in numerous tournaments and beat men 3 times his size sometimes 5 at a time... That may be reality for the person saying it. But it is still not reality. And for the sake of asisting your fellow man or woman, telling lies or ficticious facts... Is only manipulating and ignorant.

Good question, and I admire your guts. But you're right, there is a lot of stupid questions and when you ask a stupid question you get a stupid answer, i.e. "who would win in a fight between?"
I have'nt been here for long but I have noticed the crap. Personally I enjoy helping out those who are considering taking up a martial art, whether that be starting out or changing styles. I admit my knowledge is limited but I stick to what I know and I do my best to encourage, spark motivation and give options to the asker. It is annoying to read answers that utterly fail to give the asker any decent food for thought.
I have'nt recieved any emails from anyone complaining though, but as I said I have'nt been here long.

I forget who, but someone famous said something to the effect that "history is a fiction that we all agree upon", or if you have seen Mr Wuhl's "Assume the Position" it can be called the "Liberty Valence Effect". "When the legend becomes fact, print the legend."
Everyone has a version of the "truth", although if you are looking for truth then philosophy is where you study that, or "facts" and facts can change based on who agrees to what. That's why Paul Revere gets credit for Isreal Bissel's ride, and everyone thinks that Columbus sailed to prove the Earth was round, even though the globe had already been invented by that time.
I still can't believe how many people believe that the colored belt system has anything to do with never washing your belt and it eventually turns from white to black. That's 100% myth but people still won't let it go.
I wish all that "who would win between...", "what is the best/most effective...", and "with MMA why do people bother practicing traditional MA..." would go away and there could be informative, intelligent, and thought provoking questions and answers instead of some of the stuff here. I have stopped trying to enlighten those askers because they only really want to hear what they already believe and are not interested in any sort of "reality check".
As for the "haters", I consider the source. I try to answer only those questions where I have some actual knowledge or experience. Sometimes that knowledge is based on misconceptions that came from listening to the wrong information in my past, and I learn from it.

It doesn't bother me anymore. You just have to accept that this is the way YA works. To some people this is just a game and nothing you say or do is going to change that. All you can really do is skip on to the next question and ignore them like the plague.
For every nut case E-mail, I get a thank you from someone who is serious. So, it balances out.
Try to take it all with a sense of humor. You are never going to convince some people that your experience might be a little more accurate than their favorite cartoon character.

I concur totally. I wish we could get Yahoo to make it so the same silly questions are not asked over and over again.
I know exactly what you mean. It is though mostly kids and teens I believe because if they were adults and Martial artists then they should have a lot more respect and honor towards other people and their opinion even if they disagree.
I used to get the same kinds of emails and such so I just set it to block so only those i allow on my contact list can see anything.
Best of luck, I hope the honor returns to this section sometime soon.

It's frustrating indeed.
It's mostly people who don't even bother to read about the martial art in question, so they believe whatever b.s. they are fed, it's exhausting to fight against ignorance, as the fools seem to multiply way too fast.
Just do what you can, keep being honest and ignore the fools insulting you.

I read a book called "Shotokan's Secret," where the author clarifies the Japanese concept of two realities. One official reality (state sponsored) which may or may not jive with the other reality, how the person perceives the world. In America we expect there to be one reality, and when things aren't congruent with other things we know, we assume one thing is false. Perhaps a false history tells a truth about a thing that isn't historically accurate, but is still none the less a truth beneficial to learning.
This idea is strongly in Zen, where aparantly wrong statements are enlightened ideas.
"The Sky is Blue, the Grass is Green. The Sky iis Not Blue, nor is the Grass Green." -Zen saying
Zen and the martial arts have developed together for quite some centuries.

Of course it is annoying when you know something to be a fact and the answers provided are wrong. I also find it annoying when a completely wrong answer is choosen as the best answer. There is nothing you can do about it though so you just have to ignore it.
