i would choose kulk or is it kook sul kwan, why because from what i understand i works w/ the points that acupunturests (hope i spelled it right) work on for an attack, and it has a ground game like jujitsu. thats only what i got when i looked it up, i have never seen or have practiced it.

This is actually an ok question in my opinion.

Since I can't choose a combination of styles (Or MMA and/or JKD as a concept for that matter): I would personally choose either a hybrid style, or a style that emphasizes fighting on all ranges.

At the moment, I can say that I am a striker, but I don't know the ground very well. When I get to my major ground fighting: I really don't know where I will go or in this case: What fighting range I like most.

I chose that as an example, because when you take hybrid styles/styles that teach fighting on multiple ranges: It's easier for you to figure out what range you like, because you have experience in all ranges. If I'm well-versed in all ranges, and if I'm skilled enough to disarm my opponent: I can choose for them where we want to go. :p

Hybrids/Styles that teach fighting all of multiple ranges off the top of my head:

Kajukenbo- Very good example to the person that posted it. the Hawaiian people made it to defend against sailors that would stir up trouble.

Kuk Sool Won- The totality of Korean Martial Arts, with a combination of the Chinese animal styles as well. There's a school about 30 or so miles away, but I just started two new styles: Not happening soon. :p

Hapkido- This is one of the two styles I am taking now. It's not a complete hybridzation, but it teaches striking, joint locking/manipulation, and throwing.

Kyukido- This is the other style I'm currently taking. It starts with Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido concepts, and moves into Judo/Jujutsu later on in curriculum. The later belts are the only ones with major ground experience (And this is where some Kyukido and Hapkido schools sometimes miss: Ground fighting), but I think it is a great style. It means "The sudden release of energy that comes with any successful fighting technique." Big emphasis on snapping I might add.

Jujutsu- The style of the Samurai. Ground fighting, striking, throwing, and intense black belt training. With the right school: Jujutsu is f****** cool! ^_^ With any good schools of these styles: The same applies.

Seidokan (Spelling?) Karate- I think that's the name of it. Frank talks about it a little. It's suppose to combine many elements of styles. for all around fighting.

San Shou Kung Fu- Good ol "Free Hand." Just like with some of the other styles: Good School= Good fighting on all ranges.

Others: Systema, Krav Maga, Haganna, et cetera....

Find a good school, not a good style. Never sign a contract and never pay for rank testing.Observe/take free classes. Ask to see their contact drills and kumite. Look for direct lineage to the founder of the art.

The quality and frequency of training will far outweigh the style.

Tae Kwon Do. Since I am in it. I go to class every week 3 or 4 times a week.

I would choose kajukenbo. KA (karate), JU (judo, jujitsu), KEN (kenpo), BO (chinese boxing / kung fu). It is very effective and combat tested.
