Well Bluto told you the old way that the Thai people did it, so that or something similar maybe bamboo will help build up your shins, just don;t use a tree!!! I saw a bonehead do that once and broke his leg, actually splintered it.

You should start with a heavy bag, but that will not get you conditioned enough, so going to bamboo, banana trees, and such will all help.

The Chinese style if Wing Chun uses a wooden dummy that is also great to toughen up on.

If you do it right you will toughen them up well, it just takes a lot of practise and dedication because it will be very painfull too at times.

good luck

Frank is ABSOLUTELY RIGHT do not roll anything over your shins or try to make them more rounded by chipping the edge away will cause permant damage to your shins, listen to Franks advice on that!!

The way to condition the shins is by kicking the heavy bag.

DO NOT roll things onto your shins, the bone will get damage as it's not even, I repeat DO NOT roll things onto your shins.

Thai fighters kick banana trees as they give in, but camps with more money buy heavy bags, which essentially give you the same workout.

The way to condition the shins is by kicking the heavy bag, over and over and over. Do it 100, 200 times with each leg, eventually the nerves will get damage to the point that you will tolerate the pain, but they will regenerate, that's why it's important to keep kicking the heavy bag.

Start conditioning on the heavy bag, once you can hit it with your shins FULL dorce many times move on to something harder like wood if you can handel it, make sure it will move but, you dont want to be hitting anything solid full force, it still needs to give when you hit it otherwise its very bad for you

Furthermore you would want to kill all the nerves in your shin also just in case that you get leg checked with the knee you dont want to feel any pain in the shin

To do this grab a glass bottle and continuasly rub it dont your shins, a good bottle to use is a glass coke bottle, the one with the ribs on it, you can also fill it with sand to make it more solid, do it everyday and after rubing up and down with force hit your shin with the bottle and test yur pain level, if it hurst keep rubing!

go to thailand and kick a bannana tree.

or you could just do the more logical thing and buy a heavy bag.

they make longer ones for kicking, if you don't have a ceiling that can support it you can buy a hanging support or just buy a standing heavy bag (not nearly as good). or better yet just use the bag at your gym to practice on off hours.

A punching bag is a good start... Once you get more experience, then try a tree, but no one really kicks a tree anymore.

have known two champions in muay thai...they conditioned
their legs/shins (and i am NOT recommending this) by kicking
metal posts and concrete....

muay thai is great for fighting in the ring but its a bunch of bs for self-defense.

Why would I need to learn how to condition my shins for defending my self?
