C-note is correct, if she has strong technique, and she must be practicle a good kick to the knee is her best bet... Unfortunately if a woman is attacked by a man, the man is out to over power the woman she will be taken to the ground quickly, so she only has one shot... so the flying reverse cresent is NOT a viable option.... If she has had PRACTICLE TKD training and the guy is untrained... she will know what to do one the ground if given the oportunity, this will not be good at all for the untrained guy.. TKD is a great form of exercise and can be great for self defense, but the "new age" TKD makes me embarrassed..

YES!
The whole purpose of training is preparation and readiness. A "Skilled" TaeKwon-Do female would in all probability hold out pretty well against most average guys on the street, just as a "skilled" TaeKwon-Do male would.
Gender is often raised as a limitation or mitigation in ability or skills. I have never found this to be valid in all my years of teaching. Indeed, I have often found such things as gender, size, and age to be majorly misunderstood by the general public and by some in the martial arts (unfortunately.)
The ability to put up a defense is aviable to all. The ability to put up an effective defense depends upon training, preparation, and desire at the time. Any true martial art will prepare all students to be ready for that moment. What happens in that moment when it really occurs, no-one can predict until the situation arises.
I know many quality female black belts who would (and one or two have) give most average guys a short, sharp, shock if the need arose. Equally my own instructor was a 5'8", 145lb, diminutive white guy who could easily wipe the floor with most who may be silly enough to challenge him. Looks and unsubstantiated misconceptions can deceive significantly.

Keyboard Warrior is correct. I've seen a woman with a black belt in Judo easily beat guys with lower belt rankings. And these guys were much better than "average." As for BJJ, maybe oddly, I haven't seen any female black belts competing live. (However, look up Nyjah Easton--she's Mike Easton's sister. She's a BJJ black belt. I've met her, and she could beat most men with a decade of training.) But I've seen some advanced purple belts who consistent beat competent blue belt males--and a competent blue belt is way beyond "an average male with no training." The only concession I'll make is that if you take a guy and a female--same belt level and same real skills--and if the guy outweighs the female he's probably more likely to win.

I hate to say this, but I do not believe so.Tkd is a sport art,as a man who has trained for 26 years,I would dare anyone, man or woman,to throw a high kick at me.Add to this,in NY we recently had a tkd black belt who was raped and murdered by an untrained man

The question is not able to be answered because we need more info on the guy.
You said average guy. Does that mean Average Size, Average fighting skill, average everything
And what about the woman, is she average size also or is she smaller or bigger.
Theses would all play a role in the answer.

I don't think so. From what I've seen personally, most tae kwon do schools teach a watered down version of the art which is geared more for competition than realistic self defense. I've heard of more than one tae kwon do black belt being raped, mugged and murdered in the street.

-tae kwon do is more for sport. I would say do some thing else like jujitsu, hopkido (preferably combat hopkido), judo, krav maga, or kook sul kwan. Many say kenpo, but i like grappling more, still it doesn't hurt to check out kenpo.
-an average man untrained man vs a woman trained to fight, yeah the woman would win.
- i just had to say this, i remember there was a school that said roll to your stomach if your on the ground. If they say that to you, that should be a red flag; they don't know what their talking about.

I would not not mess with a female martial arts expert at all. I am a male who is in great shape through working out in the gym and there is no way in which I would mess with a woman who has trained in martial arts. I respect women who are into martial arts and they are no different to me from other women who participate in other sports and activities. They are women and they should be treated with respect. I once dated a woman who was an expert in taekwondo and when we used to play fight, she would block all of my swings at her, letting me know that she could drop me on the floor anytime she wanted to. I would have no problen dating another woman martial arts expert who could perhaps kick my butt. Guys, get over it. There are women who can beat up guys. Deal with it!

That depend on what you consider defending yourself means.
How about the Martial Arts trained female who walks with the confidence that keeps her attacker from even picking her as his victim. Are you asking about a one on one competition or a self-defense situation?
