Not much of a war, but I once ran into a dozen drunken and p1ssed off factory workers who were on strike, unfortunately for me, I happened to work at the same factory and wasn't part of the strike, so after a few exchange of not so kind words and a few seconds of dancing around while they tried to bash my head in, I managed to run like hell away while the mob of angry workers chased me with sticks, liquor bottles and rocks. Oh by the way, the martial arts skill I used is called the "hundred meter dash", hasn't failed me yet : P

I've fortuantely never had to use my skills, but a few of my students have.

One who was in Thailand on vacation caught a bycicle cab and found himself in an alley surrounded by three Thai guys demanding all his money. He was about to comply when they began to get aggressive, and fearing he'd actually get hurt and not just lose his wallet, he decided to use a TaeKwon-Do front snap kick the closest and most aggressive assailant in the abdomen. He caught him a solid blow with a loud kiap, doubled the guy over and dropped him to his knees, and his buddies immeidately dragged him out of the alley leaving my student with his wallet and the bicycle taxi :)

A female student had been studying TaeKwon-Do and cross training in HapMoosaKi-Do for about six months with me. She was riding her bike at night in San Francisco when a vehicle drove up beside her at a stop light she had stopped at. A guy in teh back seet of the car tried to grab her from the bike and drag her into the car. She tried to simply struggle and resist at first, but they seemed serious and she saw there were four guys in the car, but only the two back seat passengers were manhandling her. She told me she executed a single finger release on the guy further away who was holding onto her collar and is sure she broke his finger in the process. She executed an elbow strike to tthe face of the closest guy who was trying to pull her through the window and saw blood "explode" down the front of his shirt. The car sped off and she was so shaken by the experience, she didn't get its make or license - but she survived and was physically unharmed.

While you never want your students to find themselves in such situations, it is very rewarding to know that amongst all of the other benefits we all receive from training, every once in a while, something you teach a student will actually help them in such a bad situation.

I have already answered this one, you may want to search this one.
But here it goes.
Yes, I have used my training in real life.
I was attacked by three guys and given no choice but to defend myself. I did just that. It was sloppy, dirty, fast, crude and nothing like a sparring situation. I knocked two guys down , they hit their heads on the concrete and I stared at the third guy. He froze up without his partners, I ran away. I got in my car and drove away. I pulled over a couple of miles later because I was so sick to my stomach that I had to throw up. And throw up I did, everything came out. I saw an eraser come out that I ate in 2nd grade. I have heard this is common after you are attacked.
I hate violence.

My style doesn't matter. I don't like to discuss my style on this forum as it tends to draw lines in the sand. The quality and frequency of your training will far outweigh the style you train in.

As a former prison guard, and even now as a consultant for Florida Corrections.

** Key Lock to prevent a suicide attempt
** Head Butt to keep from being bitten
** Too many wrestling moves breaking up fights to count
** Step-Behind-Side-Kick to open a reefer an inmate's friends were so kind to trap him in
** Crucifix to get an inmate to let go of a guard
** Osotogari to intercept a young inmate from rushing a senior inmate

I've also heard of guards using wrist-locks in interrogation, but in Florida, that's illegal.
