As for your blocking problem I would ask him to be specific as to what the problem is. Perhaps you learned or practiced doing it wrong and now will have to re-learn it. Without knowing what that problem is it makes it pretty hard for you to fix it. As for your back kick keep your base leg slightly bent and make sure you are not leaning excessively. If you lean on the kick it makes it easier to do the kick higher but makes it harder to keep your balance. Also when you hit something like a heave bag you will fall over as you are hitting the bag if you are leaning excessively. So work the bag and see if that happens and that may be part of the problem. Another cause may be that you are not retracting your leg back with the same speed and power and keeping your knee up as you retract it. Put an empty card board box that's about a foot tall behind you between you and that bag when you are hitting it and if your foot or toes hit the box then you know you are dragging it back-not pulling it back like you should.

Ushiro Geri, is that back kick? (I haven't dealt with Japanese terminology in more than 10 years) Make sure your stablizing leg is bent. If you're still thrown off balance by this, bend a little more with the stabalizing leg, and even flex a little, grabbing the floor with your toes.
