Hi there

No Taijutsu just translates as natural body movement using the whole body. The term is used by many Japanese arts from modern Jujutsu to Aikido. It can also be associated with Budo taijutsu or Ninpo taijutsu. Nearly all modern Japanese arts come from Koryu (old Samurai) schools but they have been adapted over the years to fit in with modern society. So really taijutsu is just a loose term. It all depends on which words you place in front of it as to what kind of movement it is referring to.

Hatsumi uses the term Budo or Ninpo taijutsu to refer to the movement of 9 different ryu ha rather than having to name each one. They incorporate Dakentai jutsu, Jutte jutsu, Koshi and Koppo jutsu. All are different ways of moving. The feeling and its application is very different from modern Jujitsu.

Best wishes

idai

My gut reaction is to say the one with the best instructor that you can find thats going to be the most important factor but I'll have a go at a more detailed answer. Taijutsu if you can find a good instructor (email me if you want I will see if I can find someone near you) is an interesting style it has a lot of weapon techniqes as well as striking grappling etc and could be a good addition to your arsenal, judo is damn hard work and will give you feed back straight away on how well you are doing but it is quite specialised - shouldnt be a problem for you as you are already crosstraining. I would say those are my two top picks then jujitsu then akido but really get the best instructor you can find in that or anyother martial art and go with them. Good luck.

No. Taijutsu just means hand to hand combat. It doesn't have anything to do with a particular style.
Jujitsu is a grappling style of martial arts used by the Samurai to disarm their enemies during close combat.

Jujutsu was originally called Bujutsu, which means "stop-fight skill".

Taijutsu means "body skill".

The art learn by REAL ninja was Bujutsu, which specialized in taking swords or disarming.

Ninja also traveled to China and spied on Shaolin methods in the Temples.

So their art had alot of variety.

So yes, it is the older jujutsu and other arts.
