They had the lowest team batting average in the NL (.250), and they scored the 3rd fewest runs (712) .
Their pitching is pretty good with the 4th lowest ERA in the NL, but still they allowed 732 runs compared to the 712 their team scored. How does a team get outscored by their opponents by 20 runs, yet still finish 18 games over .500?

Decision to keep Willie the right move
Ken Davidoff
October 2, 2007

Willie Randolph will visit the principal's office today at Shea Stadium, and he'll be told to never, ever do that again. He'll be warned that if he attempts another stunt like this, he can try getting work with his first organization, the Pirates.

Mets ownership, particularly COO Jeff Wilpon, is livid about the collapse that ended with Sunday's embarrassing loss to the Marlins. It's understandable. But it's heartening to see that the Wilpon family - described yesterday by Omar Minaya as "an ownership group that's a fan" - will look past its rage and give Willie another chance in 2008.

Randolph deserves that opportunity, because, just as Minaya said at his Shea post-mortem, his body of work as a manager merits it. He also should come back because it would be criminal to scapegoat Randolph for what turned into a system-wide malfunction.

The pitching staff collapsed on him. And it looks like he will pay the price. I am hearing that he has only a 50-50 chance to keep his job. They played well up until September, when it really mattered most.

At the start of the year, every major sports publication had the Rockies in the cellar in the NL West, if not in all of baseball. Some of the writers didn't even know most of their lineup. But they go out, win 90 games and make the playoffs. Now, Joe Girardi won this award last year with the Marlins because they won when they weren't supposed to. I know Lou, and the rest of the the contestants are all good, but they were SUPPOSED to win. What about those who won when they were not supposed to?

With his clutch hitting and his great defense, I think that with a few years big league experience, he will be up there with the names of Jeter and the likes. Now, Jeter fans, I'm not saying he will be better! I'm just saying would you put him in the same grouping.

That pitcher Thatcher was mowing down the Rockies like crazy,he brings in Hoffman(the all time save leader??)and the roof caves in.Yes, Holliday did not touch home. All you people who think instant replay should not be used,go tell that to your Padre fans who got stiffed. The Rockies were hungrier.

I heard and not from a fan of either team that it was a bad call at the plate, the guy didn't touch the plate but was called safe, which allowed the Rockies to win.

Can anyone confirm that ?

Mine: (1) last strike of the 2006 World Series from Adam Wainwright to give the Cardinals the championship, (2) Beltran striking out in Game 7 of '06 NLCS from Wainwright, (3) Last out of the 2004 NLCS, (4) Pujols' HR off Brad Lidge in NLCS Game 5 in Houston to take the lead in the 9th, (5) Ozzie Smith's game-winning HR in '85 NLCS against Dodgers...I was so young but I remember it and it gives me chills today to see it still

Were the NY Mets doomed from the beginning of September with their pitching/performance on the field?

What do you think caused the great collapse of the N.Y. Mets in the N.L.East....?

Any thoughts as to the off-season and what should the Met's do to improve their chances in 2008?

What do you think, Holliday was "safe" or not??

2007-10-01 20:12:13 · 14 answers · asked by frend 2

He sat right behind the plate and had a little dog with a Rockies hat and shirt on. At first I thought it was a baby, because he was holding it over his shoulder for awhile.. but for the last 4 innings, the dog just sat on the ledge infront of him.

Is he like the owner? Does Coors Field allow dogs for some crazy reason.. he obviously was not blind.

Won 14 of 15 to close season. Does this help them with momentum, or have they already peaked?

I'm hoping for the momentum. Hasn't been much to cheer about as a Rockies fan for some time now...

Clearly Holliday was out and clearly the ump was waiting for the play to be complete before making the call.
I think the ump saw the Rockies pouring onto the field and said "Oh, what the hell, hes safe. Lets go home."
Does anyone else get that impression?

i think that was the worst umpir there ever was. he called so many balls strikes and sso many stikes balls. and at the end when he called holliday i think was when he called him safe, he didnt even tough the base!!!!!!!!!! that made me extremly angry. i really thought we were gonna make it to the playoffs.

Because the guys that announced todays game between the rockies and padres were HORRIBLE?

2007-10-01 18:13:34 · 8 answers · asked by Anonymous

if a play is controversial, manager can issue a challenge, ump would consult with other umps and go to the replay booth, then make final call.

I think baseball really should have this. what do you think?
