Barrett, the catcher, was in the act of fielding the ball which he dropped. It's when the ball is no where near the player when that rule about not blocking the base path applies. Barrett did a great job of blocking the plate. Holliday should have been called out.
But in truth if everything were called accurately Atkins would have had a home run in the 7th and maybe the game doesn't go to extra innings.

Regardless of the blown calls to both sides by the homeplate umpire, Holliday being called safe was the right call because a base cannot be blocked unless the player defending said base is in possession of the ball. Regardless of that play anyhow, the game should have ended in nine innings, Garrett Atkins' hit was a homerun, all the damn replays showed the ball hitting beyond the yellow marker on the wall. Game Over.

You can argue balls and strikes all day, that is just part of baseball, but he got that last call right. A player can not block the plate if he does not have the ball. Holliday was safe even if he didn't touch the base because Barrett did not have possession of the ball and therefore was not allowed to block the plate. It is the only time I can think of, when it would have been better if the throw had been slower. Watch the slow motion replays and you will see the ball come in well ahead of the play. Barrett drops it an it gets by him, then Holliday slides in and Barrett moves his foot to try to block. If he was still in the act of attempting to field the ball, then he could block that plate according to the rule, but since he had already dropped it he was not entitled to occupy the baseline.

The fans would keep complaining every single week. I'm tired of IWC say this is the worst Pay per view, Worst raw ever, Worst match ever and more others. IWC said same old ****. It's getting stale to say worst show ever. I'd enjoyed this week raw. We've Great matches and Unexpected Finish. Big E Langston had beat Alberto Del Rio clean. That's very surprising. Curtis Axel's new Paul Heyman client, Nobody saw that coming. Shield vs Team Hell No and Kofi Kingston was the match of the night. Triple H had concussion. The ending was unpredictable. You're negative person.

McClelland didn't have a very good day. HOWEVER, regarding the last safe call:
Official Baseball Rule 7.06(b) The catcher, without the ball in his possession, has no right to block the pathway of the runner attempting to score. The base line belongs to the runner and the catcher should be there only when he is fielding a ball or when he already has the ball in his hand.
Barrett was neither fielding the ball nor had the ball in his hand. Holliday was therefore safe.

One thing that makes a good official in any sport and in this case baseball umpire is consistency. He was consistent. The other thing is to sell your calls. I do not think he did a good job of selling his calls. The game winning run camera angle left the result inconclusive to the television viewer but the umpire was in the best position to make the call.

Everyone who is citing the rule of not blocking the plate without possession of the ball is retarded. What would be the point of blocking the plate if you already have the ball? Why don't you just tag them and move away so you don't get bowled over and get a tooth knocked out?
The rule is in place to keep base runners from being tackled on their way to the next base.
It seems that none of you have ever seen a baseball game in your life let alone a play at the plate. Yeah, how many times do you see a catcher say, "Oh, the ball isn't here yet. Okay. Let me move over to the side, then I'll catch the ball, and then attempt to tag the runner who will have scored by now." Solid plan guys. Keep up the great work with answering questions you have no real answers to.

Yeah, but they botched a homerun call eariler, everyone seems to forget this. So really they even theyselves out and it doesn't affect the outcome. If they had a good ump that had made right calls all night, Rockies still come out on top because of the HR that should have been
