Won 14 of 15 to close season. Does this help them with momentum, or have they already peaked?
I'm hoping for the momentum. Hasn't been much to cheer about as a Rockies fan for some time now...

Holliday was safe, as the catcher is not allowed to block the plate without the ball. Several people have pointed that out already.

The Rockies finish hurts them because of having to go 13 innings in a 1 game playoff to get in. This is just the type of thing which people who don't like the Wild Card winning too frequently have been proposing for years (see: http://www.sportsmogul.com/content/playoffs.html ). Matt Holliday hurting himself on the winning run that counted even though it didn't score (the Padres fans are going to be angry about that all winter, as the umpire clearly missed the play and made the wrong call, which is why they need instant replay in baseball, even though the NFL referees fail to make the right calls even with replay).
Philadelphia had a similar strong finish, but they didn't have to play a 13-inning playoff to get in. Besides that, the Phillies are pretty much a copy of the Rockies, except that their offense is even better (the Phillies scored nearly as many runs as the top AL teams and would have probably scored 1000 if the NL had a DH) and they've got a better ace (if Cole Hamels was healthy down the stetch, we'd be debating whether or not he should get the Cy Young instead of Peavy right now). Philadelphia survived a string of injuries and is only now healthy for the first time this year.
At the moment, it appears that Philadelphia has more gas left than Colorado. However, whomever wins that series is likely to beat mediocre Chicago or lucky Arizona and go to the World Series.

That's a good question. This has happened before. The MVP went to Sammy Sosa because his team 'made' the playoffs. Mark McGuire was skeerewed out of this MVP award.
The Rockies 'made' the playoffs, but look at what it really means. They weren't good enough even to win the wild card outright. Now, they just might win the World Series, but now to the answer to your question: The Rockies' win shows the flaw in the wild card playoffs. Pretty ordinary teams can make the post season. (They cannot be called BAD, because after 162 game, no bad teams are left standing.) But they surely aren't great. So it's a minus.
I know everyone likes the wild card. But there needs to be a little tweaking to make it a solid idea.

I think it's a big plus for the playoffs and for the Cubs. Congrats to the Rockies for making it...I'd rather see them than the Mets or the Padres with those ugly uniforms. Looks like they were pee'd on. Chicago will have a cake walk against the D-Backs (3-1) losing game 1. And then win a tough series against the Phillies. My bet...Yankees vs. Cubs. Cubs in 7.

Base ball is the only sport that I actually care to watch. If The Rockies can get My attention, or that of other 'couch potatoes' than I say "Good on Them". As I understand it They are going to have Their hands full in the next game. Personally I prefer to barrack for the under dogs, so I will be supporting Them!

They have momentum, although you should hope the injury to Matt Holliday (he's got my vote for MVP) isn't serious. But all that has happened doesn't matter, its best of 5 against the Phillies who have the #1 offense and at least one game guaranteed at Coors. Good luck.

I would say that for the Rockies its a good thing, but they are playing the Phillies who have also been pretty hot. It would be better to be a hot team entering the playoffs than a losing team.
