People will argue it for years - I don't think he touched the plate but neither was he tagged out.
But what matters is that the umpire ruled him safe and the Rockes won the game.
EDIT: I just saw the reply again. He does get tagged but not until after the Umpire rules him safe.

Safe, because the umpire said so and so will the record books. In reality, he looked out since he did not appear to touch the plate. When is baseball going to be like other sports and use instant replay. Why should a team be penalized after playing 162+ games and kept out of the playoffs because of a mistake by an umpire?

It is a judgment call and the umpire has the final say as to safe or out. Therefore, Holliday was safe and what a great ending to put the Rockies into the playoffs.

Actually, the play never ended. He didn't touch the plate, and was never tagged, if you watch closely Barrett gives up chasing Holliday after he see's the ump. So basically, that game will go on forever. LOL

holliday was out !! .. what gets me mad the most is he dosn't even know how to slide the correct way .. that's why he ended up going face first with dirt in his mouth .. he's and idiot ! .. he never touched the plate .. and im dissapointed in the ump because his calls the whole game were crap .. he hesitated a lot & a lot of the strikes he called balls .. a lot of balls he called strike ..
whatever though ..
J-RoLL for MVP .. now he CAN slide bags right .. that's why he's gonna go all the way

The replay looked like he never touched the plate, but it's irrelevant now. Besides, if Trevor Hoffman could get anybody out, it would be a moot point. Padre fans should be more upset at him than the umpire. The Padres had multiple chances to wrap this up in the last week and Hoffman couldn't get anybody out in crucial situations.

It did not seem he touched it but, I guess that was a pay back for the homerun no call in the 7th. Besides I think the umpire was tired! LOL

I'm not a fan of either team. My unbiased opinion is that he was out.
It's clear as day, really. He never even touched the plate. I think the umpire only called him safe because the catcher dropped the ball. Whether he dropped the ball or not, Matt still didn't touch home.

It looked like he never touched the plate. Barrett did tag Holliday while he was lying on the ground behind the plate, but by then the ump was already calling him safe. But it looked to me like he was out.
But, it was definitely a home run in the 7th inning, so it evened out.

From the replay's I've seen, he didn't touch home plate. However, he wasn't tagged out by the catcher either. So, I guess you could argue either way.
