At the start of the year, every major sports publication had the Rockies in the cellar in the NL West, if not in all of baseball. Some of the writers didn't even know most of their lineup. But they go out, win 90 games and make the playoffs. Now, Joe Girardi won this award last year with the Marlins because they won when they weren't supposed to. I know Lou, and the rest of the the contestants are all good, but they were SUPPOSED to win. What about those who won when they were not supposed to?

My pick would be Charlie Manuel of the Phils, I mean, just look at the injuries they had, especially to their pitching staff. Howard, Utley, Victorino all spent time on the DL. Their supposed ace, Freddy Garcia won one game, Lieber left early, ditto Madsen, Gordon and Myers were on the DL for lengthy periods. Hamels was on the DL. I think Moyer was their only projected starter NOT to miss time. Amazing accomplishment to keep these guys going in the right direction I think.
Hurdle 2nd and Manny Acta 3rd.

It won't be much of an argument, Hurdle has to be the front runner to win. I don't pay much attention to the manager of the year award, it is more of a popularity contest than anything else.
