if a play is controversial, manager can issue a challenge, ump would consult with other umps and go to the replay booth, then make final call.

I think baseball really should have this. what do you think?

yeah its long but if a play is controversial like the play at the play and a close call hr it could determine a win or loss.......replay is a must IMO

I'm sure that this is in response to the Padres Rockies game. While it looks like Holliday did not get a piece of home plate, the replays would have to be called "inconclusive" because there is no clear shot of his hand not touching any portion of the plate. So if the MLB did have the NFL's replay rule, I doubt that call would have been reversed.

Bad calls are just part of the game in baseball and always have been (Jeffrey Maier comes to mind).

The only replays I could see being used in baseball would be fair/foul balls and whether a ball was a homerun or not. Close out or safe calls are often still inconclusive after replay.

NO!!!...only Football should have that system...
replay system would make the game of baseball much longer and the managers will challenge on every little things, like calls on ball or strike, home run or still in the park, and runner got to the base first or the baseman caught the ball first...

controversial call is the beauty of baseball...n it makes the game more interesting

I've heard about having replay all morning long. I do not think it is a good idea. Part of the game of baseball is getting past the blown calls. Yeah, sometimes they may even hurt the team you like, but sometimes that team gets the call. I just think it is all part of the game. Baseball is a game that takes enough time to play already. We don't need replay to slow it up anymore.

I don't think they should have a replay system for two reasons.

1. The games would be even longer.

2. Managers can challenge plays just to cool down the opponents pitcher or take advantage by getting a pitcher warmed up. This will change how the game will be played.

Tom T. Terrific idea! Let's put a computer behind home plate to call balls and strikes, and computer cameras at each base and down the lines to call safe or out, fair or foul. We'll need some scattered around to cover center field and foul pops.

Then, because the players are injury prone and inconsistent, we should replace them with robots who will perform at the same level every day.

Then, of course, fans won't be necessary. So let's put the whole thing on the web and let people at home play the game.

In fact, let's do away with baseball altogether and just play computer games!!!

no but Umps need to be held responsible for missed calls either by fines or suspensions. They can now call a conference if they are unsure & I don't think I've ever seen the ump team make the wrong call when this happens. Usually one of them saw the play.

What MLB needs first is another butt-kicker like Sandy Alderson back in charge of the umpires. Tell them to move their fat asses to where the plays are -- what is the point of the line umpires playing about 50 feet behind the 1st/3rd base umps? And the narcolepsy by plate umpire McClellan tonight is simply unacceptable -- make the call without delay.

No, what they need is a better system to decide playoff teams. One game should not decide, especially when one team has home field advantage from a coin flip rather than what they achieved during the season. Perhaps a best of 3 for tiebreakers is a better idea.

No way, baseball games would then take 5 hours to play.

I couldn't agree with you more dude! We definitely need it on plays like Atkins' home run! That was four feet outside the wall! It bounced even!!! So, YES, baseball needs that!
