Yes, looking at his lifetime stats he's no Boy Wonder. BUT! He was a savvy ballplayer, an MVP in the World Series, and he held not just any record longer than anyone else -- he held THE record. And he held it without steroids, which every player who broke it used. He was good on defense, he highlighted a team that had many hall of famers, and he was not an arrogant or self-involved personality. Exceptions are made for the hall all the time. By today's voting standards, Jackie Robinson just might not be voted in. But he did something exceptional. Roger Maris did something exceptional as well. He did it honestly, the way Hank Aaron did his work. Put Roger in the hall where he belongs.

No hall of fame for Ron Santo, Bert Blyleven, Gil Hodges, Roger Maris, Thurmon Munson, Tommy John -- need I go on? MVP voting based on who they like (as if they're girls or something) and usually there is a racial bias (as in Rickey Henderson, Bill Matlock, the Indian with 50 Ds and 50 HRs). The same with all the awards. They are the only ones who think they do well. Any alternative solutions?

This was a 12 - 11 victory for Cleveland.
Detroit led throughout the game.
What a ballgame!!!! Any team could have won it.

Josh Bard hit a ball over the wall in the eleventh inning last night that hit the railing above the wall and bounced into the seats. the Pirates manager argued with the Umpires that this was a Double, and they changed their ruling from Home Run - which it was, without a doubt - to a ground rule double. I dont see how the Umpires could have even considered this a Double.

Yankees are way too many games back. What needs to change? Pitchers? Coaches? Offense?

I don't think most fans are smart enough fo this privillege. They vote stupidly. Lets look at the A.L.
Catcher-Ivan Rodriguez is the leader. Why? He is doing nothing. Jorge Posada and Victor Martinez dwarf his numbers.
Outfield-Manny Ramirez? Manny always got my vote in the past-but his numbers are lousy this year. Ichiro is another overrated pick-then take in the fact that Johnny Damon's name is even mentioned. Magglio Ordonez-Grady Sizemore-these guys should be in there closer then Damon or Manny.
1st base-Konerko has more votes then Hafner (DH primarily)??
Youkalis should be in this mix somehwere too. This guy is a masher.
If this game "counts" and effects the outcome of the W. Series homefield advantage--fans haven't shown the smarts to have earned a right to vote in my opinion. Stats--pure simple stats should be used to make the decision. Then the best players are All-Stars-fans get the best--like it or not. Agree or disagree? I mean who really wants to see a .250 hitter??

Umps are starting to play the game like they own it. Umps are not the reason we go to ballgames, listen on the radio or watch on TV! Umpires have been looking for trouble in my opinion. They have been screaming back at managers and players and tossing way too many people out. If it were up to me, I would fire them all after this season and start fresh. Umpires should be able to listen to a player/coach and turn their backs and walk away but insted they go at it, screaming back and forcing a player/coach outburst. This is not why we watch ballgames, so why do we put up with this? Maybe they can get the Umps to be more tolerant, and this would be good, but I dont see an end in sight to the madness.

tonight he went 3 2/3 and gave up 8 earned,

kyle snyder is part to blame

But why does he do this when it is clear he is terrible vs the yankees?

Anyone care to defend Wakfield?

Ok. First of all I am a HUGE Braves fan
Heres my PERFECT playoffs scenario.
Mets make the playoffs only by wildcard. The Braves win their division.

In the end before the world series the Braves sweep the mets. Then they go on and tie the games even against the Red Sox in the World Series. The next game wins it all. IT becomes the bottom of the 9th. 2 outs and the braves are down by 3. The bases are LOADED and Brian McCann comes up and hits a grandslam. It would be awesome if that happend.
Red Sox is my most favorite AL team. IT would be awesome for both of them to make it.

Whats your best scenario of this years NL playoffs?

On my previous question many had agree that A-Rod could become the next all time home run leader. But, will he be liked more than Barry Bonds? Will he be booed and insulted by fans and stalked by reporters? Or should it be easier for him?
