Umps are starting to play the game like they own it. Umps are not the reason we go to ballgames, listen on the radio or watch on TV! Umpires have been looking for trouble in my opinion. They have been screaming back at managers and players and tossing way too many people out. If it were up to me, I would fire them all after this season and start fresh. Umpires should be able to listen to a player/coach and turn their backs and walk away but insted they go at it, screaming back and forcing a player/coach outburst. This is not why we watch ballgames, so why do we put up with this? Maybe they can get the Umps to be more tolerant, and this would be good, but I dont see an end in sight to the madness.

I have been umpiring for 6 years i do some small college games now and i will tell first and foremost the coaches and players ask for it, they give you smart a## remarks all game and when they come out to ask about a certain thing they do not ask like you see on tv they make it look like they are nice but i will guarantee you they say some pretty mean things to us so dont blame the umps the coaches and players that are thrown usually deserve it

Players and managers are often yelling at bickering at the umpires all game long. I am not surprised that umpires occasionally do yell back at them. They in fact show incredible self-restraint to not blow up more often.
It's one thing when an umpire/ref takes a personal vendetta to an extreme (see Tim Duncan vs. Joey Crawford), but it's another thing entirely when an umpire simply reacts to the verbal abuse directed at him and responds. I have rarely, if ever, seen an umpire deliberately try to take over a game just for the sake of being an a-hole.

Umpires evaluate each other after every game and are supposed to report the results to the leagues head umpires . What does that tell you?

Specifics, please?

You'll find that this happens far less often than you think it does, if you were to look for and give specific instances.
