Umpires have discretion to do several things if they think a particular player is acting above and beyong merely competing. That's why there are balk rules, as well as the "ball call" if a pitcher goes to the mouth. If a fielder throws a glove at a ball, it is an automatic triple. If a runner intentionally disrupts a fielders attempt to call a hit or throw, they are automatically called out. Because baseball has these protections in place, there's no need for additional penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Yes. Baseball - the good ole boy sport - really sickens me sometimes. And for all of the media that scorn altercations in the NBA and NFL, they seem to think that bench clearing brawls, managers getting ejected and pitchers beaming hitters with baseballs intentionally is all part of the game. But then the same reporter will turn around and say that this type of behavior destroys the image of the NBA and the NFL.
I think that if a pitcher hits more than one player in one game, he should be ejected just like a basketball player is ejected for two Technical fouls for just questioning a call.

I think so - I know there is a 'making a travesty of the game' rule, but nothing that I know of specifically about sportsmanship. In a Yankees-Blue Jays game last week, apparently A-Rod shouted out "Mine!" while running behind one of the Jays infielders who was settling under a high pop-up in the late innings of a close game, causing the infielder to drop the ball, and eventually leading to a Yankees victory. I call that unsportsmanlike!

No. There is already too much umpire interference in the flow of the game. For example, they issue warnings when a pitchers dares to throw inside; the rest of the game nobody can throw anything on the middle in, and batters dive right over the plate. They don'l let the players handle things themselves like in the past.

I don't know how you could call it unless the Commissioner's office could just monitor games or get a report from the umpires and then possibly fine or suspend the players/coaches involved. Other than that, I don't really see how this can be handled.

Obstruction - 7.06
Defensive Interference - 2.00, 6.08(c), 7.04(d), 7.07
Offensive Interference - 2.00, 5.09(f), 5.09(g), 6.05 (h), 6.05(i), 6.05(m), 6,05(n), 6.06(c), 6.08(d), 7.08(d), 7.09(f), 7.08(g), 7.09, 7.11

There's also spectator interference and umpire interference.

However, if you're asking this in reference to Wednesday, the umpire would have to hear it, and the proper position for an umpire for a call at 3rd is close to third, not up the line, where the interference happened.

I think we are being too vague to what it constitutes ... because then you get things like the batter staring at the ball during a home run being un-sportsman like, and it being subjective to the call of the umpire.

What A-Rod did against Toronto was un-sportsman like. But the part of the game involving hitting batters when your team mate is hit, I don't think so. You have to have the ability to work that out of yourself.

Yes it should and is pretty much also umpires eject you if you get in an argument with someone or get into a fight so it is pretty much called in the game already.
