Consider basketball, football, soccer, etc. They all involve a ball or handling of a ball to some varying degree. However, baseball involves hitting a ball, that is traveling at a high rate of speed, with a wooden stick essentially. Even if you do hit the ball, you must hit it in an area between the foul lines and where there isn't a player waiting to field it. Even when you suceed, you fail in this sport (i.e. failing 7 out of 10 times in baseball is considered a success).

I've always wondered how good Ty Cobb was, how good Cy Young was, etc. Were they good only because no one else was in that time period OR were they really that dominant? Consider pitchers like Santana, Schilling, Rivera facing players like Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, etc.

My Dad was telling me his fastball has not gotten over 85mph all spring , is that true? Is anyone optomistic that he can make it back? What is the story with all these pitchers , young studs breaking down all the time Wood, Liriano , Prior just to name a few. They know so much about sports medicine now , can't these trainors , Doctors, figure out a way to keep them in one piece? Anyway any thoughts? Thanks.

It is rumored that ARod may opt out of this contract after this year and Brian Cashman has already said the Yankees are not interested in offering another long term contract to him. ARod's services are still probably worth in excess of $130million, after factoring in the contracts that Carlos Lee and Alfonso Soriano got. And ARod is just entering his 30s. Where will he go? Boston?

Peter Gammons and Steve Phillips to finish first in the NL Central this year. If I'm not mistaken, the Brewers finished 75-87 last year with the same players. I am a die hard Reds fan and am hoping they can make the playoffs this year but I wouldn't be dumb enough to pick the Brewers over the Cardinals.

The three divison winners are sit, but I think the wildcard has it too easy. The next best two teams out of the three divisions play a three game series in the better teams park then get one travel day to play whom ever they are to face in the playoffs. Call it wildcard weekend! Currently the MLB wildcard is treated like a divison winner. BS! Make themk earn it! Your thoughts on the wildcard.....
