So as long as the player reaches the previous base uncontested it counts as a hit being scored as the last base they touched?

If a player reach's first base as the result of a clean play (no error) it is a basehit. From there any base he reach's that is not the result of an error extends that basehit from a single to a double, triple or HR. The official scoring on your scenerio is a 3B, runner out trying to advance. Even if he rounded the base too far at third and was tagged out it is still a triple because he had reached third base safely and not a result of an error. Occasionally you will see a player advance to another base when the fielder tries to throw out another runner. In your scenerio, say the outfielder threw the ball to home to make a play on the runner ahead of the hitter. The hitter went to third, it can be ruled that the runner had a double and advanced on the throw. This scoring means that the official score keeper ruled that if the other runner had not been on the field the hitter would not have been able to run to third as the throw would have prevented him.

This question is interesting and all the answers are right but the baserunner screwed up royally. The ball is hit into the the gap in right center or down the line, the baserunner who has blazing speed cruises into third and arrives standing up . The third base coach says " What the hell are you doing standing there dummy ,go home "and then by the time the baserunner gets on his horse again it's too late and he gets thrown out.

The batter is credited with a triple. If there were any runners on base at the time of the hit who scored, the batter is also credited for those RBIs.

Goes into the score book as a triple, out at home with a putout for the catcher and any assists to the fielders that got it back in.

Your own answer is actually correct. A runner is awarded the last base he reached safely regardless if he was directed to go further or he chooses to do so himself. Award him a triple.

Yes it is recorded as a triple and the runner is out according from the manwho threw the ball home to the manwh caught the ball and tagged the runner out. (ex. 3B out 6-2)
