They say hitting a major league pitch is one of the single-most toughest things to do. When the pitcher throws the ball, you have less than 2 seconds to react and decide weather or not to swing at it.
Now magnify that pressure by 150 percent when it's two outs in the top of the 9th inning of the world series, your team is losing and faces elimation, if you don't reach base in any manor what so over, your team is sitting in the duggout with long faces watching the other team celebrate it's brand new world series title.
I would definately say baseball is definately one of the more difficult sports to play. Football is a game of handling the ball too, all though if you have the ball in your hands, the opposing defense is looking to level you into next Tuesday.
Football is also a big cheese match, a QB consistantely has to read and react to looks and formations that opposing defenses give you. It would be an understatement to say that quite a few QBs had bad games against the '85 Bears, the Steel Curtain, and the 2000 Ravens defense.
Ultimately I would say that baseball is a challenge sport pschylogically, football is a very challenge sport both physically and mentally. However some sports that may seem easy to play, may be much harder to play than what you think, especially when you get into the pro-leagues of Soccer where you are playing against some of the best players in the world.

Hitting a baseball is the hardest thing to do in professional sports, period. You have to make perfect contact between two round objects, one of which is coming in at 90mph from 60'6" away, to make the ball go straight. And you made a good point yourself as to how dificult it is - You have to hit the ball between two lines where there isn't a player waiting to field it. Thats not exactly easy. Shooting free throws, now thats easy.
akous - if all you had to do to be a good baseball player was practice hitting a ball a few times, everybody would be getting paid to play. for soccer all you really need are quick feet and stamina, not any truly demanding athletic skill. kicking a ball into a net is a skill, but nowhere near the skill needed to hit a baseball.

Well think about hitting for a minute. you have no idea what a pither is going to throw it could be a 100 mph fastball or a 75 mph curveball that starts at your head and ends up at your knees. It is also the most Physically demanding sport. You play almost everyday for 6 months, the only season that even close is basketball and thats still only half as many games. If you are athletic you can pick up any other sport but if you've never played baseball no matter how athletic you are, you won't be good.

bo. every sport is difficult. baseball is probably one of the easiesttry playing soccer where ur constantly running. in order to play soccer, u need to have SOME type of good footwork and it takes ALOT of practice to do tricks. Football, u need to buff up and still be in shape. u need to run around on hot days wearing that big uniform and takle people all day in the mudd. u can get injured real badly because ur constantly doing something. baseball on the other hand, all u do is learn how to hit the ball the proper way, practice it a few times and thn ull be set. the people on bases though actually do work nd the ppl runing around the bases are doing work too. the outfield barely does anything but catch a ball when they see and and the pople on the bench dont do anything when they arent up at bat. theres a lot of sitting around in that game.

You make some good points which prove the point. From personal experience, baseball struck me as one of the toughest sports around. I washed out pretty early. You can find a spot in football and basketball with average athletic ability, but you can wash out quickly in baseball. (Softball, obviously, is a different story.)
It's tough to judge hockey because of the skating factor. Gymnastics always struck me as very difficult, if you want to go in that direction.

My vote would be that batting is the most difficult thing to do in all of sports. You have to be gifted with great eyesight, hand to eye coordination and strength. Then you have to practice and work on it.
Plus, don't ever put me at home plate with a 100 mph hard ball coming at me. What a mess there would be...

it's not as physically demanding as football, and you don't need to be a freak to be good at it like basketball. but it takes more skill than the two combined. hitting is hard, but there is still the defensive side of the game, reacting to the tiny ball that is hit with a tiny bat is pretty hard, and pitching that tiny ball in just the right spot with just the right spin takes a lot of skill

Absolutely, the hand eye coordination required to hit a baseball is more demanding than any play in any sport.

You're pretty much answered your own question. And yes, I agree. A 39% success rate at the plate and you're a hall of famer!! Hitting a round ball with a round bat surface. Can't think of anything more difficult.

Baseball is hard but hockey is harder. Think about your on 1/8 of an inch of skate. You have to have te quickness of an Olympic runner. Strengthen and toughness of a football player. Knowledge of a brain surgeon. There also many other difficulties to hockey too.
